Lady Griz MT vs Wyoming thur

LG without Mandy Morales so time for the other players to step up. There is a lot of talent there, but not having your All American in a game like this makes it tougher. LG need HUGE games from Lohman, Rogers, Closson and Guardipee.

Wyoming 65 - 54 LG final score.

With a minute left in the game and nine points behind, why bother fouling?...especially when Wyoming was shooting two free throws by that time. They picked up six easy points. Two or three points behind, I can see it; then the referee can call an intentional foul because that's exactly what's happening, though they rarely ever do. Though they could actually do so. Which is what?...two free throws and possession. A ridiculous way to play a game, fouling on purpose.

with a minute left a team can score a lot of points. I mean it is just 3 3-pt shots from a tie ball game. Thus a team is going to try to stop the clock any way they can and fouling them and hoping they miss the free throws is the only way. Or you can just throw your hands up in the air and say "I Quit".

Anyway, I am so thankful Mandy decided to transfer from Arizona to come here. Would have hard times winning 20+ games without her. Plus, with Mandy at Point, Sonya can be 2 guard where she would be more lethal offensively. Lady Griz lost around 30 points of scoring between Sonya and Mandy.

So, here is hoping Mandy is back real soon.

It is nice to Beck do well offensively, made up some of the slack.

Britney Lohman, who is kind of the Andrew STrait of the Lady Griz when it comes to freethrows, made 11 - 12 freethrows( I think). She is like a 40% to 50% freethrow shooter on average this year, but nails almost all of them today. After today's game, her season average at freethrow line will be more respectable.

Brittany is over 70% from the line this season. Morales didn't play tonight, which was likely the difference in the ballgame. Hopefully the LG will get another shot at them in the post season.

Yes, I know Mandy didn't play.

Lohman was 6 - 12 at the freethrow line before this game. So, what I said about her freethrow shooting percentage being more respectable after this game holds very true.

Then you should know she was a 64% FT shooter for her career before the game.

I wouldn't say it's a "I quit" situation. Five minutes left in the game, behind by more than six, time enough not to panic while on offense; HC of UCLA John Wooden had a full-court press, not just at the end of the game, certainly, but the entire game. You delude yourself in thinking you're going to hit three treys in a minute with less than a seasonal forty per cent rate. Give your offense time enough to think. You 'do' say you quit by confabulating a meaningless barrage of needless fouling in the last minute.

This reminds me of a similar item; the 'game-theory' that Youngstown State HC Jim Tressel did to the Griz coaching staff back in their Play-off game in 1999. YSU had three time outs left in the closing seconds of the game, UM brought on their FG kicker on their last play, a FG needed to tie. Tressel calls two of three timeouts, everyone in the stadium, including announcers, thinking he is doing this to 'ice' the kicker. [Everyone does it, don't they?]....but the kicker spots on a muddy portion of the field; instead of taking a delay of game penalty to move the ball back to a grassy portion of the field [like there is a 'real' difference between a 21-yd FG attempt and that of a 26?] the Griz coaching staff await and expect the typical ring-in-the-nose mentality of 'icing' the kicker by calling a third time out. Which YSU doesn't do. Tressel doesn't call a time out, the Griz players panic, staff is bewildered;..paniced players got to hike the ball or else they are penalized [so what] and Heppener falls on his ass in his attempt and the Griz lose the game by being outsmarted.

Yeah, better to lose by twelve that actually play heads-up team defense and only lose by five. The next go around, if it ever occurs, may be somewhat closer, maybe five points closer; so now, you lose by seven instead of a tied game going into overtime. Way to go, Sherlock.

Awhile back Montana up by nine points with 30 seconds to play vs Idaho.

Some way Montana scored one or two more points in the final thirty seconds.

I witnessed it but do not recall exactly how it was done but Idaho scored enough points in the final thirty seconds to overcome the lead of 9 and the MT points in the last thirty seconds and won in Missoula.

I think tinkle was playing at the time. I don't remember...i remember being younger and listening to the game on teh radio...They were down by 10 w/ a minute left and beat idaho i believe...

Idaho scored at least 11 points in the last thirty seconds and won.
