The Montana Lady Griz awoke from 30-plus minutes of slumber, battled back from a 12-point second-half deficit, and edged the Denver Pioneers 50-45 before 2602 baffled but happy fans in Dahlberg Arena Thursday.

Glad I went to the game...that second half of the second half was where they really dug in and worked hard to come from behind. Nice work from DeBoer sticking the dagger in the heart of the Pioneers late in the going, and equally nice work from Katie Baker in getting a double-double. Wasn't pretty, but a win's a win.

Also stayed after to game to get my poster autographed by the entire team, as did a bunch other people. I complimented much of the players for their effort while they were signing my poster.

They looked hapless, helpless and clueless for so long it was painful. Then they caught fire and looked great. Seeemed to have trouble against the full-court heavy pressure.

I was very curious when Selvig put Kenzie De Boer in as point guard that Denver did not put on any full-court pressure at all. It allowed Deboer to go down the court without any pressure and pop in a wide open 3 pointer. That was one of the few open shots Lady Griz had all game. Maybe they knew something, but I do not know what that would be, because De Boer was somewhat out of sync in previous minutes with three turnovers in around 10 - 12 minutes of play time prior to playing the point guard. Maybe her height made match up problems with defense in a full-court pressure defense, but that is only speculation.

Watching online, DeBoer pushed off which is why she was so "wide open". Great play by her, she plays on instinct, not thinking all the time like some are doing all the time. The talent is there, Selvig will get them where they need to be. It is going to be ugly at times, but isn't that what pre season is all about?
