Lady Griz Drop Close One At Home vs NAU

Lost a tough one to a pretty solid team tonight. I couldn't make the game, but from the radio it sounded like it might have been better for Katy to just rest up for the weekend. She shot 0-6 from 3, while the Lady Griz shot 0-8. If we could have just got one of those, it makes a huge difference in such a close game. They had too many turnovers in the first half and were down by 10, but had a torrid finish to get the game back to 2 at the half.

It's probably a good loss for the team, although it doesn't feel good to see a team celebrate on your floor. This should get the team fired up to finish out the season hard. I know this much...NAU had better hope they don't see UM back in Missoula for the tournament. If they do, the Lady Griz will mop the floor with them. I'm sure the ladies won't soon forget seeing them celebrate on the home court.

First off, Lady Griz did not play all that badly today except for the first 10 to 12 minutes of the first half. NAU just played a very good game. NAU is not a bad team either. They have the ability to beat any team in the league.

But, the Lady Griz did turn the ball over like 9 times in the first 10 to 12 minutes of the game and fell behind 24 - 14. The Lady Griz did shoot the ball well. If the turnovers did not occur, they would have had the lead.

But the last 25 to 28 minutes the Lady Griz turned the ball over only 7 times. Not bad, but a couple turnovers late in the game cost the Lady Griz the game.

Also, what cost the Lady Griz was getting that key defensive rebound. Lady Griz did outrebound NAU, but NAU put out a little extra at times and got a key rebound and scored it at critical times of the game.

Holly Tyler lead the Lady Griz with 14 points.
Holly also turned the ball over 4 times, 3 times when she put the ball on the floor instead of just going up with the ball to shoot. But, I have a feeling she needs to do it, because it helps her get the rythm in her shot. When she doesn't her shots are flat and don't make it the rim or she puts to much on the ball and it goes over. Possibly because she can't jump more than 2 inches. But she has the long arms to block shots. She blocked 5 of them today.

Jody Mcleod had another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Not sure why Selvig had her out as long as she was in the second half. She should have been in the game for at least 35 minutes instead of the 29 minutes.

Katie Edwards still appeared to be under the virus. She was short on almost all her shots. She did make one field goal and 2 free throws. But the rest of her game was good. She didn't turn the ball over at all.

Monaco had a tough game. I would say she was responsible for more than 1/2 of the 9 turnovers in the first 10 - 12 minutes of the first half.
Overall she turned it over 6 times in the game. The last one being a very costly turnover where an NAU player picked her and scored a layup. So, that would be 5 turnovers in the first half and one costly one in the second. But, Monaco did play another 40 minutes with a total of 80 minutes for the week. I wish I could be in as good a shape as her.

Now, I suppose those guys that think 15th seed or worse will come out in force. After this game, the Lady Griz may just get that if they even get in.

But, the thing is, the Big Sky is up, Montana is a bit down. But, I still beg to differ about the Lady Griz not being good. What a crock. NAU is a good team. There are about 2 other good teams other than NAU and Lady Griz that are good teams. I still would not be surprised if Lady Griz was seeded better than 15th seed if they win out.

Okay, some of the above are referenced to those on the other message board. There seems to be some posters that got so spoiled from last year that now because they aren't quite as good as last year, the Lady Griz are not good.

And, also, it seems because the Lady Griz are down a little from last year, the Big Sky conference is down and is bad. But the fact is, Last year there was only 3 teams, Weber State, Montana, and EWU that really had a shot at gaining the automatic bid for the title. This year there are 4 teams, the same forementioned plus NAU. And let us not forget, the most improved team in the Big Sky is Sacramento State. I predict next year they will be a strong contender. Plus, ISU should be more improved.

No loss is good. But, I hope it does fire up the Lady Griz.
