Lady Griz - A star is born.

Tiana Ware has come off her freshman redshirt year. The first couple of games she played sparingly and didn't show much except grace and quickness.

Last night against Hampton she played 14 minutes, scored 6 points, and grabbed 5 rebounds. She had a great move where she drove from the 3 - point line diagonally across key for a lay-up - a move that left us wondering how she did that. She can jump, plays defense, and has the quicks. She will probably play the 2 guard and it seems that she can shoot and penetrate. It seems that Robin doesn't have much depth that he can count on - this is the time to groom Tiana for next year.

I don't know that she will be a prime force this year, but she is the long-term future of Lady Griz basketball, along with Sarah Ena, who has become a key part of the team - perhaps the key part of the team as a sophomore. Tiana and Sarah will give the LG an outside - inside combination that will be tough to defend. Plus, they can both jump and play D.

I wish Tiana Ware decided to redshirt but she did not want to. She can also play the point guard position, and may be the point guard of the future, although Ashley Ferda is thought of the future point guard. It could be switched though, Tiana can handle the ball well and has quickness and athletic ability. Just what you like in a point guard. Ferda seemed to be the best shooter of the three incoming freshman during the scrimmage and exhibition games, which you would like in a 2 guard.

Anyway, Tiana will be a very good player for the Lady Griz.

Ferda is far and away the best PG candidate. If any of the freshmen were ready to play this year it was ferda.

On the same subject, earlier in the year it appeared that the only weakness for the Lady Griz was a lack on production from the bench. The Hampton (albeit 2-7) game continued a recent trend that indicates help is on the way. Stephenie Stender had some production both offensively and defensively. While Robison actually looked the player that led a Most Valuable Player Award in the "AA"  Tournament. And the Lady Griz were much more efficient against press with Shaunte Nance Johnson on the floor. Jessa Lohman Linford supplies a lot of athleticism at post but needs more playing time to gain confidence on offense. Then there's the excitement that Ware brings. All this should provide more rested, less injured starters and to be more specific Mandi Morales who seemed to wear down at the end of each season due to team dependency on her.
