Lady Griz beat Gonzaga on the road today.

Big Game for Dana Conway scoring 17 points on 7 - 12 from the field, 3 - 5 from the 3 pt line. Had 5 rebounds. Played 35 minutes.

Mandy Morales scored 15 points on 4 - 10 from the field, 2 of 3 from the 3 pt line, 5 of 6 from the freethrow line.

Katie Edwards scored 13 points on 3 - 11 from the field, 1 - 5 from the 3 pt line and 6 of 7 from the freethrow line. Missed her first freethrow of the season.

Sara Gale scored 10 points on 5 of 7 from the field. Also had 5 rebounds. This was her best game of the season.

Johanna Clossen scored 8 points, on 1 of 4 from field, and 6 - 6 from free throw line. Lead the team with 6 rebounds.

Lady Griz shot 22 of 52 for 42% from the field, 7 of 14 from the 3 pt line for 50%, and most importantly, 21 for 26 from the freethrow line for 81%. This is the best free throw shooting team I have ever watched. Gonzaga hit only 9 of 15 from the freethrow line. The refs let the players play more in this game, but Lady Griz still cashed in on the free throw line.

Before season, everybody figured this would be a perimeter oriented team. But, that isn't so. Most points are from the inside because of the penetration that Mandy Gets going to the basket.

Mandy Morales was named player of the week. Here's to many more of them. :thumb:

Except I think Dana Conway will steal some POWs away from Mandy.

I think Conway's significantly improved play is due in part to being a year more mature and experienced, but also the added confidence of playing with her high school buddy, Mandy Morales. After several years of playing together they know what each other is going to do before they do it. Dana will benefit more than anyone playing with Mandy. Hopefully, the same occurs with Shadra (?sp) Robinson next year although she did not play as long with Mandy and Dana.
