Lady Griz 57, Hornets 54

Katie Edwards was out with what some thought was Mono.

This unfortunate thing turned out big as Lady Griz did not have an outside game, allowing Hornets to be able to have a player front Holly Tyler, a player behind her, and quite a few times another player on her. Holly still scored 16 points, but her shooting percentage was horrible.

But, the player who came to the rescue again for the Lady Griz was Jody Mcleod. She scored 19 points, and grabbed 10 rebounds. She was 5 - 9 from the field and 9 - 9 from the free throw line.

Laura Cote started in place of Katie Edwards. Certainly not the offensive threat as Katie. But, she did play well on defense, scored 3 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, one assist and one turnover. She played 29 minutes which is the most she has played in any game.

Dana conway played 10 minutes as Cote's backup. Scored 2 points, and turned the ball over 3 times. For some reason, I sure wish that she was able to redshirt this season. She could have used it. She will be a good player though.

Have to give credit to Sac State, they played a very good game defensively. They kept their hands up making it very difficult for Monaco or anybody else to get the ball inside. Plus, the defense on Tyler was good. In addition, it seems their defense got the Lady Griz to hurry up their shots to much and causing Lady Griz to miss easy bunnies.

Sac State really didn't have an anser for Jody Mcleod though. Jody just bounces around like a rabbit and gets the ball in, or gets a foul. And she is deadly from the free throw line.

Also, Sac State was able to keep the game close with timely 3 point shooting, and scoring some points off of Lady Griz turnovers.

Lady Griz play NAU saturday. Will definitely be necessary for Lady Griz to shoot better. Hopefully, Katie Edwards will be back.

The Lady Griz missed a lot of little bunny shots that would have put the game away. At one point at the end of the 1st 1/2 they missed 4 consecutive shots under the basket - it was like they were playing catch off the backboard, but good rebounding effort saved the game for them.

I was impressed with Brown (#24) for Sac - very quick. I think Monaco was intimidated by here a little, but I think if she had more confidence she could have beaten her more often with the dribble, penetrated, drawn the double team and fed it Tyler. Instead she just sort of picked up her dribble and lost momentum.

Pretty exciting game overall, but I hope they shoot better against NAU.
