LA News - Sloppy UCLA outlasts MT

Gonzaga's success started the day Graves recruited Courtney Vandersloop. she is probably the best point guard in the country. If the Lady Griz had her, their problems against full court presses would be non-existant. Take her out of the Gonzaga line-up and they are basically at the same level that the Lady Griz are. Plus, Vandersloop really had it good to be able to work with John Stockton.

But, Gonzaga does have a considerably larger recruiting budget. Plus, if your going to choose a school that busses their players to games up to 500 to 600 miles one way (Montana) versus a school that charters a plane (Gonzaga), it would be an easy choice for me. I would take the school that charters a plane to their games. Therefore, Gonzaga would be the choice. Lady Griz pretty much bus to all their games in conference except Sac St and NAU. Gonzaga would be flying to those.

Plus, it sure helps to recruit when the mens team is well known and ranked.

As for the 6,000 capacity arena, versus Montana's 7,421 capacity. I guess there could be a lot of debate here. Watching that game, their arena didn't appear to be any worse. Sure would be nice to have been larger for them. When you look at it, Montana's should be 6,000 and Gonzaga's should be the one at 7,421. Rarely do the Griz get over 6,000.
It's Vandersloot.
"Gonzaga senior point guard Courtney Vandersloot became the first player in Division I history -- men or women -- to record 2,000 points and 1,000 assists in her career."

One word, neutral site in the big dance.

The woman's NCAA tourney is a joke.

More than one word? So?

So is the woman's tourney.

Other than it being females playing basketball, how is it different from the Men's tournament? I love and enjoy both tournaments. AT least women hit their FT's consistently better than the guys.

mtgrizrule, I have no beef with you. This is not personal.

I just think that on the men's side, they at least try to maintain a semblance of neutrality through the early rounds.

Give me a break. How is it fair for Gonzaga to play in their own gym while they are the lower seed against two higher seeds and then move the whole works downtown to a bigger venue after that? Don't give me the well they will sell more tickets argument. I have no doubt that Iowa and UCLA could have sold just as many tickets on their home courts. And, by the way, I tried to buy tickets to the UM UCLA game and couldn't get them because they wouldn't sell single game tickets. Did you see all of the empty seats for that game because nobody from Gonzaga was in the house?

It has nothing to do with gender. I love the Lady Griz just as much as I love the Griz.

It has more to do with how poorly the NCAA runs the woman's tournament. Just my take.

You do realize that GU bid for this tournament, right?
Oh BTW, it will be there next year, too.

I know the feeling about not getting a single game ticket there. A few years ago, I wanted to watch check out a tournament there, and I could not get single game tickets either. BTW, I don't have beef with you either. Even the men's side has a lower seed getting a slight home edge from time to time.

If the UCLA's of the world have a problem with it, maybe they should have the powers to be outbid Spokane and other sites.

I'm not sure how all that works, but I still question the part about the Zags playing two games in their own gym and then moving the whole regional downtown where it all should have been played in the first place, imho.

Oh well.

It is all about minimizing the financial loss of the Women's Tournament by keeping as many schools close to home as possible and ensuring crowds. Any school that makes the tourney and is a predetermined host, is by rule plaeced at that site. UConn, Stanford, Utah, Gonzaga, Maryland, Penn St, Duke, Tennessee, Ohio St, Xavier, and Baylor all played on their home floor. You are only complaining because you could not get a ticket.

Tell me this, why is Gonzaga able to out-recruit the Lady Griz in BB? They were never better than us until the past few years. They have a pathetic arena, and their conference is no better than the Sky. Just wonderin'.
Yeah, a $25 million, 148,000 square foot arena is pretty much a shit hole.
The WCC has San Fran, Saint Mary's, Portland, and GU.
This was a joke, right?

He put up a similar post about MBB during the conference tourney. He has "interesting" ideas about who we should be out-recruiting and why.
