Kyon Loud’s Value

It is absolutely astounding the difference ONE player can make. I don’t think there was a more impactful player we could have lost for an extended period.

Loud going down early in the season changed the ENTIRE way this defense operated. Without a shutdown corner (at an already thin position), this team struggled to stop the pass (while dominating the run). Bobby/Tim couldn’t do what they wanted on defense and it showed. With Loud BACK these last two games we’ve seen the defense I believe Bobby & Tim envisioned at the beginning of the year. Fast, physical, swarming to the ball, with DB’s on islands.

It’s been an absolute joy to behold…and I hope to God Loud comes back next year (and I really hope his little brother signs with us, although doubtful).

If you watch the Cats, it’s clear Lamson doesn’t handle pressure very well when teams bring it. With Loud back, our defense is light-years better at generating it. I think we can seriously disrupt their offense this time around. And it doesn’t hurt that our offense has cranked things up to a level we haven’t seen in some time. (Maybe ever)

I agree. Lots of good posts. I have been saying that for over a month now. He’s a key on D.

So true. With Loud back, I feel hundreds of times more confident than I did for the brawl.

His inability to play forced the other corners to get better under fire. Lawler in particular is light years better as a result. Ford much better now than he was even in mid-season. Beaner got valuable reps. All part of Bobby’s long game process.

Good post AZ. A game changer with Loud being in there. Tim called him the most important part of their defense early in the season. You are spot on, it allows them to stack the box and the run more efficiently while at the same time having way better coverage on the back end. Tolbert getting back and healthy is also critical. And I’m almost positive they have shifted Solo into the Mike linebacker position a few times and he has wreaked some havoc there. A different defense and different team than a few weeks ago.

On another note it’s Loud and not Loyd :)

Speaking of Solo him putting tackles flat on their back on the way to TFLs was thing of beauty!

Depth in FBS and FCS is a luxury. Not many teams have it. Kudos to the Griz coaches and training staff for how/when they brought Loud back. Bobcats appear to be getting bit by the injury bug at the most inoppurtune time. I hear Crews received multiple cheap shots at the bottom of the pile during the Yale game. Couldn’t see it and purely speculative. Didn’t see his injury or how hobbled he is.
