I hope he can coach as good as he can recruit.

Which naysayer within the last few months that Mick could not recruit HS SR's because he is too old to relate to them? (or something like that).

Guess Mick proved that wrong. Let's pray the coaching steps up this year, JJ is found not guilty, then GRIZ NATION will be looking damn good again. :thumb:

There's no doubt Mick was drinking from the knowledge firehose when it came to the head-coaching hotseat this past year...let's home he learned a TON, and the growing pains won't be so obvious in 2013.

If it turns out that the Griz actually "lost" the in-state recruiting battle (that of course takes time to be proven) but did extremely well out of state then it may suggest that the turmoil within the program, while shocking to in-staters, really isn't that extraordinary outside the state. I can tell you that here in Oregon, stuff happens at OSU and UO with some regularity and is more or less dealt with as a matter of process. It doesn't often become front page headline news that is rehashed ad nauseum. Nothing is swept under the rug for the most part -- though Oregon's current predicament may be a notable exception. Here the press doesn't distort facts nor is an enemy of the athletic programs. They report and move on so people deal more in the space of the known facts rather than agonize over speculation. If out of state players don't see the program as toxic it is probably because they simply don't read the Missoulian which is not a surprise. The continued past success speaks much louder than the recent woes.

Mick has always been a good recruiter. It is one of his strengths.
Jud Heathcote prided himself on his recruiting skills, although he admitted he sometimes missed the mark: "I didn't always recruit the kid, but I never lost a Mom."

I maintain the fact that older than dirt Delaney has done a superb job insofar as recruiting.

He has done more than most of us expected.......with all the bad press (Florio) he has done an amazing job. Good for Delaney and his coaches. We are not taking a back seat to any of the big sky schools concerning recruiting this year!

I am in the camp thinking we can have a damn good football team this coming year! (no spell check)

good looking recruiting class. I am really looking forward to the spring camp. I want to see someone practicing with Mick on the sidelines. "Left hand horizontal, right hand vertical." You don't get to cash in those unused timeouts at Ruby's! C'mon man!

Wolfpack, don't get me started on the time-outs before every punt and field goal try. If Delaney could cash them in at Macdonalds he and the team could eat for five years at no cost.

PS That was last year......New year coming!!!!!

I'm just saying, work on it in training camp.

And punt coverage.

And press coverage.

And for the love of GOD dump the cover-2.

It seems time (and a solid recruiting class) heals all wounds.

Has there ever been, since the beginning of time, a college football recruiting class that wasn't "solid"? Ever? And my second question is... has there ever been a recruiting class at the U of M where at least ONE griz fan declared it to be "the best class ever"? I think not - on both of those questions.

Well, for starts, there was that 2007 Recruiting Class wherein only two freshmen stayed around till they were seniors, one or two transfers, and there weren't that many to begin with: http://www.egriz.com/grizboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22708" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Then there's that recruiting class right after Mr. Joe Glenn took off for Wyoming and left the Griz holding the bag, somewhat; a recruiting class done in a very cursory fashion IMHO.

I must be in the minority here but this class has me worried. Like some, i worry that there is no "beef." I realize Mick is recruiting for need (DBs) and we have depth in the trenches NOW but with the average turnover rate and attrition we should be recruiting at least some beef in every class. If some of our depth in the trenches washes out or gets injured we could quickly be thin. 2-3 of the WR/ATHs should be OL/DLs.

I was kind of thinking the same thing... with the full stable of RBs, you would think that the staff would invest in good depth on the OL to help facilitate running the ball... but what do I know I play music?

My daughter who cares very little about football commented one day while I was watching a Griz game, "that coach doesn't even watch the game". She went on to say, "I've never seen anyone so obsessed with something like that radio on his belt". From that point on, it seems every time I made mental notice, Mick was wandering around the sidelines fidgeting with the radio transceiver on his belt. He must have finally figured it out given the apparently good job recently with recruiting.

i think the oregon p.o.y. strahm we just got a commit from is the best of the bunch. i like ralston, rogers and russell. mckinley looks good on tape, but i worry that his lack of speed (4.7, 4.77 and 5.01 depending on which site you look at) won't cut it in the big sky. i certainly can't compare him to trumaine at this point. favors looks good on tape too, but his 5 yds per rush makes me wonder. 5 per rush in college would be good, but that isn't a good h.s. number. could be that he just wasn't on a very good team. the backbone of our program has always been homegrown players, but i don't see any of the five we have so far building on that. the transfers look good, but two are coming off injuries. the fact that we don't have one off. or def. lineman, except maybe ralston, is troubling.

True but that just may not have been the focus of recruiting this year or maybe the talent wasn't there, good depth currently in the program, etc, etc. I'm certain that it WILL be a focus next year for sure.
