I've never seen this phenomenon (no better word) in any college game I've seen. It was palpable. Yes, it has to get fixed, RIGHT NOW.go4two said:You know where we lost that half second? CENTER SNAP! This offense will find more consistency once it starts to consistently use the middle 3rd of the field. I hope OL improvement will help with this too.
Chalich is much more in the Stitt mold of a mobile QB who makes good reads than Gustafson who is essentially a one dimension drop back passer.
Grizzoola said:All I know is what I've seen in the last 4 games, and Chalich runs this offense better than BG. Stitt should continue with Chalich all season, work with him, develop him, devise plays that are suited to his talents. He's far more athletic than BG, a necessary ability, given the state of the Griz OL.
If the center wasn't holding the ball by the tip, the snap would be much faster. Watching the Griz in practice last spring for a very limited period, as well as Mines video, it seems that floating ball helps set up a couple things Montana isn't currently doing, like the fly sweep. The Griz really haven't put a receiver in motion to suggest to opponents that the sweep was even an option since NDSU.go4two said:griz4life said:He was ok. There seemed to be open receivers that Chalich overlooked. And as Guernsey pointed out there were several plays where Chalich got the ball off too late to take advantage of the blocks WRs were making. The timing was off a half second, just enough to break down a play.
That said, Chalich was much better than he was last week. Another week with most of the practice reps should mean better results at Davis.

You mean besides the guy who graduated last year and finished as the third best passer in Griz history, despite playing in Delaney's offense for two years?Silvertip said:Not saying Chad is the second coming, but he looks more Dickensonesque than any Griz QB in my recent memory.

Grizz Man said:I agree with MtGrizRule that a key will be if Chalich can hit guys in the middle of the field. But this takes a lot of touch, which is maybe why Brady struggled a bit - he's got a rocket arm, but wasn't always able to "drop" the ball into open spaces. Anybody at all familiar with Chalich's ability to do this? I haven't observed scrimmages or practices...
I've never seen a young man overcome so much, coaching changes, legal challenges, fricking character assassination by his own UM Administration, an O-Line that did little to protect him, and so much turmoil and chaos, and who always -- always -- came back to "play the game" because he was smart enough and motivated enough and loyal enough to do so. Excuse me if I think he was the greatest QB in UM history, but I am using a set of standards I think most appropriate and that success in "sport" is not a mere measure of statistics.HookedonGriz said:Amen to that. It still haunts me that we don't have JJ for this offense.Htowngriz said:You mean besides the guy who graduated last year and finished as the third best passer in Griz history, despite playing in Delaney's offense for two years?Silvertip said:Not saying Chad is the second coming, but he looks more Dickensonesque than any Griz QB in my recent memory.
Well it is what the kind of made his name on in high school. Watched him play his senior year. Had great touch on the ball. They used his run ability a lot though too. Never had the strongest arm but was really accurate.
