KPAX-Thurs Nite..Larry K

To paraphrase, Jeremy Jorgeson said, according to a reliable source, Larry is the front runner and the job is his to accept or reject. If anyone else saw the broadcast, please summarize what you heard. Maybe I perceived something incorrectly. I hope so.

Hope he doesn't go, but I'm looking forward to the Tinkle dynasty to begin. It's only a matter of time, so why not now?

I have plenty of confidence in Wayne's abilities and know that his charm and experience would deliver. Hopefully he can continue to ride the recent wave of success at Montana. I also have a lot more trust in the things that Tinkle says - and I think he'd be a much more reliable coach when it comes to success and opportunities.

It'd be hard not to think that maybe Krysko used his connections with Montana just to get a foot in the door. I shouldn't think like that, but if he goes to Pepperdine, it's as if he took advantage of the program and his alma mater for personal gains. I don't necessarily question his loyalty to Montana, because I'm not sure how much there was to begin with. He had a job to do, and he did it - so there's no hard feelings. I think what it shows is the inherent flaw to the dreaded one-year contract. Montana will continue to be a 2 - 4 year stepping stone (this applies to football as well) until you get lucky with a homegrown person who holds pride of this program over individual career success.

The most disappointing thing to me would be the let down for these ball players who have invested so much. It's not a very good example if you can't even get a coach to stick around for more than 2 years. I hope that Larry proves to these kids that they have earned some stability in the program. If not, Tinkle has done more than enough to step in and fill that role.

The source said "The job was Larry's if he wants it."

Seems like a strange thing for Pepperdine to be saying when they still have a candidate to interview

not too mention there isn't a thing on espn, foxsports, or any other sports website. If this is true, how on earth is this not being reported? It would be the ONLY offer of job or hiring kept secret in decades. I think this is more BS

Just quoting Jeremy's source. Close to the program he said. I would assume that the last guy might not be a top 3 guy on paper.

If he wants to go so bad that he's willing to leave his alma mater, his home state, and the great kids he recruited, just to go to Pepperdine, then get the hell out of here. Who needs him. Just don't rob the rest of the cradle and take Tinkle with. Get your own assistants Larry. Just quit wasting the Grizzlies time.

It's good to have someone join the conversation who knows exactly what's going on inside Larry K's head. It is far more likely that Larry is quite torn over the decision he has to make. Simplistic, negative posts like this one are hard to understand and certainly not worth taking seriously. One thing for sure, Larry has not wasted the Grizzlies time during his tenure here. If he does go, I believe Wayne will stay and become the new head coach. I also think he wil be very successfull. :thumb:

Hypothetically, lets say that LK is offered the Pepperdine job. :twocents:

What is the possibility that he and his wife are going to take some time to investigate cost of living and good neighborhoods, the schools for the kids, work for the wife, church, golf courses, etc. for a few days?

What is the possibility that he talks to Mike Montgomery about the pros and cons of the job offer and Monty says to him "I had some similar job offers when I was at UM and stayed until the proper opportunity presented itself at Stanford"?

What is the possibility that LK thinks about everything for a few days and realizes that Pepperdine offers him no greater chance to reach the NCAA Final 4/Elite 8/Sweet 16 than does UM, and is not the ultimate dream job of his career?

What is the possibility that LK looks at Heathcote jumping from UM to a Big-10 job and Montgomery jumping to a Pac-10 job and sees little career gain from going to Pepperdine?

What is the possibility that LK evaluates the Pepperdine situation as a place without much winning tradition that will need to be completely reworked plus he will have to recruit a bunch of JC kids/HS kids, hire a coaching staff and rebuild from scratch.

What is the possibility that LK applied for the Pepperdine job with good intentions but found out that the UM job had more positives than does the Pepperdine job.

Who knows?

Look, maybe that was a bit harsh but come on. It's Pepperdine! I'd love it if LK became the next Robin Selvig and stuck around to keep building the program, but if he wants to leave after only 2 years and go to a WCC team then so be it. I could see if it were a bigger school in a high profile conference but other than the Zags I just don't see that conference being any better than the Big Sky. I'd like him to stay, but know that Tinkle would do a great job as well.

Not saying that Jeremy is correct...however, the last time he stated a "source" was when he said that Chambers was heading to Montana...miles before any other media could "confirm" it.

I hope it's not true...but Jorgenson seems to be a good sportscaster in the know...for the Zoo.

All he said that is that it's Larry's job if he wants it. We all pretty much knew that anyway. We all know how sweet Larry is and how personable and charismatic he is. Any team that sits down and chats with him will be impressed. Very impressed.

10:25 KPAX update-per jorgeson "no offers are on the table" and thus far, of the people interviewed, Larry K was the most impressive-all of this from a "california source". Doesn't sound quite as for sure as it did on the earlier broadcast.

Jeremy is a jacko period... :moon: :finger:
I hope coach K does what's best for him and his family... Money makes life so much more enjoyable, especially when you have alot!!! :twocents:

I hope that Larry stays 2more yrs at least. I am dissapointed in
the athletic dept's quoted statements"we are preparing for the possibility of Larry leaving." 100K is absurd for what he has done.
montana needs toget real if it wants to excel. Griz Hoops is in the
position to go up to the Gonzaga level. Coach Huse is gone-he was a big part of success. Tink deserves the next shot-he will do well but for the good of the program efforts to keep Larry need to
be the maximum possible-not half hearted.
Pepperdine is a nice environment but the program is nothing to write home about. Larry can do better . Go Griz

Incredible! The knee jerk reaction to a third party statement on TV that Coach K is the leading candidate for th Pepperdine job. As one who toiled in the media for too many years, I can state categorically that putting much credence in a news report is foolish. Remember the report of all the minors who were saved in the W. Virginia mine disaster? They were dead except for one.

Everybody, including Jim O'Day, finds it all to easy to wave the white flag and give up Krysko's leaving as a done deal. One poster even branded him as unloyal and, in effect, good ridence. Before we pack Coach K's bags and drive him to the airport, let's hear it from him. Everybody else is just guessing. Anybody here ever interview for a better paying job? Yes? Shame on you.
