Kitties vs. Spuds Game thread (combined threads)

me was about what I expected. cat d is improved but we're not going to scare any offenses. Idaho is awful and their fanbase a bit delusional.

however, most annoying for me was those fucking announcers? what world are they from? talking about the kibbie dome rocking?! are you fucking kidding me? ya all 300 hundred of them were rocking. talking about how the big sky is going to take notice when they join the big sky. holy shit. it's like none of them can see whats right in front of their face. pathetic.

as for the game it's exactly what I felt would happen. we're likely a middle of the pack big sky team this year and as a fan all I can hope for is that the team improves every week. would be nice to see a team actually get a little better in October, November, December rather than worse....

good luck tomorrow night :thumb:

Kind of reminded me of a used car salesman trying to talk up a beater...

Wonder how that game would have played out with last years Cats team and this team. Cats offense would have scored 30-40 on them. Not sure if their defense last year would have held them under that. Too early to tell if there is a big improvement. Definitely different, better?? One of the worst games I've ever seen a quarterback, especially one that was hyped up. I can't remember even one of his passes hitting the receiver where he should have, most were so low that they couldn't be caught, or if they were caught, the receiver had to stop to catch them and then the defense caught up with them. Then when he decided to get the ball up, they were so high that the receivers were caught in bad positions. Can't believe that's the best they have. MSU quarterback was hands down better.

Well said.. And how ugly is the Kibbie dome? The video production of that game took me back 20 years.

Glad you're back posting, ILTC.

If the Spuds QB doesnt spike 1 out of every 3 pass attempts into the shit domes turf...the game looks a lot worse.....

Defense I would say looked better than Cat defenses of the past...but still nothing too good either....

Teams like the Griz..NAU...EWU will hang 45-50 on them easy

That being said...Cats wont be terrible this year.....Idaho looked to have the talent of a mid to low level Big Sky team

Those announcers really were biased and simply bad. But I have to assume they were accurate in describing the passion in the crowd, (such as it was), and the rocking of the Kibbiedome. Simply proves just how far Vandal football has fallen.

There is little doubt that the Cat defense is different. Whether it is better or worse than previous years is too early to tell. But the classic TG defense was well on display last night; give up two big pass plays early, make adjustments, give up big run yardage the rest of the game, hope the offense scores more than the defense gives up. If the offense gets big runs to begin with then the above order will be reversed and a significant amount of passing yards will be given up.
One thing for sure is that under Ty their defense will always play hard.

I did think that the Cat offensive line looked good most of the game. That may be their most impressive unit, but depth could be a problem. By comparison the defensive line for Idaho will have to improve dramatically to even be called inept.

All in all this was a good effort for the Cats and they should come away feeling good about it. They still have a long long way to go but they should feel pride in what they did last night.

Ty should be elated with the bozeman state offense & the Idaho QB. Didn't they have nearly 40 minutes in TOP? That's huge for a Gregorak defense and let's face it, Linehan played about as erratically as you could have hoped and kept state in the game. Petrino's got a Umista-sized boat load of work to do to get that ship righted.

Do you think Petrino will be the Vandal coach when they turn up in the BSC?

No! Not unless something drastic happens. Another couple of games like last night and he may not last the year.

A very good question. And I agree that the answer is probably "No." However, he'll be the one calling the shots, IMO, because he has guaranteed money for four years. Low for FBS ($410,000 base annual salary plus $215,000 guaranteed "media work") -- but probably more than Idaho can afford to pay off if they want to can him.

Petrino has both NCAA and NFL cred, so I think a more likely scenario is that he will find an assistant job that pays better (not too difficult, I suspect) and doesn't come with a load of s**t like the job he has now.

Idaho is just plain awful. Wow. Just wow. With that, the Bobcats looked better than I anticipated. Time will tell if they've improved or if we were just watching through spud-colored glasses last night.

Sounds like Newell might have a broken wrist. No confirmation yet, just something a little kitty told me.

Quite possible. After one play he was obviously in great pain as he came off the field.
Hope this didn't screw up his season. :ugeek:

He is a stud. He is a downhill, bruising runner. That being said, I thought they rode him a little too hard last night and put him away wet. There were times in the second half that you could definitely see that he was gassed and needed a break, yet they kept him in. He can't run the way he does and be used like he was last night, and make it through the season. He is one of the best in the conference and they need him to be healthy for it. Definitely one of the guys on that team that I wish we had.

Well..... A loss is a loss. I suppose the kitties equate a close loss as a positive? That said, first games give teams a snapshot of the negatives.

Defensively, Choate said he thought the Bobcats “grew up” in the second half by shutting out the Vandals. MSU stopped Idaho on nine of its 11 third-down plays, and got off the field on two other fourth-down tries.

The game was there for the taking, but the Bobcats struggled to move the ball in the fourth quarter while staring down long fields and an increase in pressure from Idaho’s defense, which had Bruggman on the run.

Did Choate mention his 4th down call to his Frosh QB? That "bone headed" play probably cost his team the game. Just sayin'.....

I did not read anything that may have been said in this thread. What I did do, was watch that football game.

Holy fuck was that not a good football game to watch.

Holy f*** was that not a good football game to watch.

It was on a level of watching three hours of Boxing Nuns...
