Kitten Spring game

Cats should actually be preseason champs this year. Finally. Looking forward to that.

There should also be a number of backups that are better than the starters. Hard to say who exactly who just yet, but there should be some candidates. I'll come back and report on that when I have it figured.

What kind of fucking person goes to a rival football fans forum page to talk about how good they looked in a spring game that doesn't show a quarter of how the team really operates🙄

I watched the first half before I got bored. The backup QB threw 2 INT’s and the defense I thought was very subpar. I really don’t think the cats defense will be all that good, and it sure as shit wasn’t very good last year either. I think it will be similar to last year where their offense will just try to out score the other teams offense, and they’re certainly capable of doing that pending they don’t have any injuries. Long ways to go before the first game but I thought it looked like a typical spring scrimmage.

Over at the Flagship. Cats are looking….. pretty damn good. Depth at pretty much every position is incredible. The announcer said this is the deepest and most talented team ever at MSU.

Spring games are always great indicators of teams strengths. I’m terrified

I'm sure the cats will be good. But saying "best ever" before a season even begins based on playing against each other in the Spring? Didn't cats squad from a couple seasons ago have 3 or 4 guys that made NFL rosters? More talented that that?

I don’t know that there will be four NFL seniors on this 2023 team, but I don’t think there has ever been a Cat team with this many talented backups. Vigen certainly knows what he’s doing.

The Griz had 11 NFL players on one team in 2008.

Well, my friend, methinks it’s good to have your offense “try to outscore the other team’s offense” ! You are point on!

Please post here more often. A cat fan coming to their rivals board to talk about their own spring game. Love everything about it. Please keep the content coming.

And labeling the thread “Kitten” spring game.

I took the whole post as tongue in cheek….am I the one that’s wrong here?

You are seriously a weird, creepy ass tard coming over here to start this thread. I’d happily met you to kick your ass any time you want. I’m dead serious.

You mad bro?

With 30 players held out of the scrimmage, it is hard to judge about any aspect of the team. The backup QB, Jordan Reed who is actually the 3rd string, was injured in Fall camp last year and was out all season. He is seeing his first action in a long time. Cat's QB room is pretty solid with Mellot, Chambers, Reed , Abshire and the early enrolled freshman Chance Wilson. What the scrimmage did show is that the Cats have good depth.

Sounds pretty similar to the Griz scrimmage. We had all kinds of guys out as well. Idk about you, but I thought it was hard to take away anything from both teams scrimmages

I agree. The value is that it gives the coaches a chance to get a lot of players on film and do evaluations.

If the DC ends up in the paper for another celebratory DUI, we will know the spring game went well.

Ok, out of kindness, I'll give you rascals an actual assessment. You're welcome.

- I watched two Saturday scrimmages in a row, and I can tell you the one yesterday didn't look much like the one last Saturday. There were a total of 32 guys sitting out yesterday, and many of them played last Saturday. Specifics to follow.

- Somebody said the game yesterday was boring..and get this...I agree. A big part was the ridiculously quick whistles on the non-contact QBs. Reed is 7 months post ACL surgery and Tommy has been completely non-contact the whole spring. Both this guys would have had a much better day in live action.

- Two weeks ago the starting WRs were Thomas, McCollough, and Taco. All three sat yesterday. Plus we had 4 TEs sitting including Snell (played last week), Pickering, Longeran, and Schlep. That's a whole bunch of proven offensive firepower sitting out. So, quick whistles and youth made for a pretty meh day. No argument from me.

- It took a little longer than I expected, but Alexander Jr., a drop-down WR from U of Washington, finally flashed. Other young WRs took advantage of their opportunity yesterday too and I was pleasantly surprised with the WR depth.

- Chance Wilson, a QB from Oklahoma, is the real deal. Can't believe he should be in HS right now. I really liked Sean Austin last year in garbage time, and was really looking forward to see him this spring. But guess what...a HS kid came in here and flat outplayed him. See you later Sean and good luck.

- A large number of key contributors on defense sat out too. Sebastian Valdez, Zack Black, and Paul Brott were all sitting on the interior DL. Askleson, the top LB and the guy selected to wear the #41, is sitting out this spring. I do like the depth developed at DL and LB though.

- Turns out we are thin and CB. We have two JUCO guys coming in, and at least one HS kid that may challenge. Yesterday we had Miles Jackson switching jerseys just so we could field two teams at CB. Not good. This will be something to watch this summer and fall camp.

- Safety looks better than I expected. Drew Palidore, a drop-down from Air Force, moved from CB to FS and has been playing very well at the new spot. Also a drop-down Stillwell finally flashed on Saturday. He's been battling some injuries, so it was nice seeing him get a full game in. Rylan Ortt has one safety spot locked up but there's a battle for his backup. My eyes told me a freshman Brock Steele (younger brother of recent graduate Coy Steele) will rise through the depth chart and make the 2-deep. He absolutely flashed these last two weeks.

- Crews is the real deal as many on here know, and played well in both scrimmages. He is blessed with both length and speed combined with improving size and strength, and should be taking meaningful reps next fall. We have a number of proven players ahead of him on the depth chart at the moment, but I can't see how he doesn't see the field next year. He's checked every box related to integrating with the team and proving himself. This whole thing was a gift to the Bobcats.

- As already reported here, Taco will be using his RS. That does not, in any way, mean he won't be playing in the Brawl lol. He's due back in October, and I would expect Vigen to roll him back in as a punt returner (at a minimum) for four games. As far as I know, everyone else is expected to be back full this summer. I know Chambers is already 100% and we held out as a preventative measure yesterday.

- Congratulations on keeping your team together so far on the portal nonsense. I hope the Cats hold together just as well. We could easily lose guys off the OL, and I'm not sure we'll actually see Valdez play again in Bozeman. I don't have any insider knowledge, but just good old fashioned paranoia. Elite players in the trenches are in high demand, and the portal taketh away without remorse. If this team holds together and our hobbled guys get healthy this summer, this will be a very good Bobcat football team.

He might have to sit out one full practice in addition to four quarters for number four. Anything goes in Boze!

Just letting you know you wasted a lot of time writing this cus no Griz fans will read it or give a s h i t for that matter. On the other hand, I do like your post pic and the foam hat. Own it!

That should give him plenty of time to get a head start on the post game celebration.

So, the bubcats won their spring game, then?

And normally I don’t do this sort of thing, but with that DC over there, I’d highly suggest y’all follow my lead and invest in Bozeman bars. It’s like friggin stealin’

And, when Vigen beats Hauck AGAIN in Missoula, one thing we can be certain of.......... Kem and Hoops will be spinning it to paint lips on the pig, and the predictable Hauck pretenders will be looking ahead to next season, when we will finally be relevant. And it nauseates me to digest it yet AGAIN!

Our one year of being preseason national champs (last year) didn’t go so well… so I’m glad you guys are taking it back.
