Kissing your sister

They could have said, okay we have lightning in the area...8 minutes left, we have a running clock. No stoppage for any reason, period.

If you have never been in a severe storm in any of the gulf states, maybe you aren't understanding the gravity of this situation. Having been born and raised in Kalispell, I assure you that there has never been any weather there to match a thunderstorm like you can encounter down this way. You don't want to have people in a structure with a lot of metal in one of these storms, it is very dangerous.
The rules on thunderstorms for the NCAA are they have a radius around the stadium and if there is a lightning strike within that radius, they suspend play. At that point, the countdown clock starts from there, 30 or 45 minutes I believe after that is when play can resume. The National Weather Service monitors this and it is out of the hands of the officials, so any time there is a new lightning strike, the clock resets and starts all over to allow the game to continue.
For those that were watching the game, you know, they actually ran two plays after they pulled the camera crew and then they stopped the game.
You can't just change the rules and go to the youth football running clock to hurry up and get things done. People need to get to shelter. It's not the rain they are running from, there is severe weather in the area, and this was a pretty big storm I don't believe there were tornado warnings right there, but a lot of lightning for sure.
Under the circumstances, I think the right decisions were made and I saw someone posted they gave the option to the schools. The options were probably no contest or come back and play the next day because there are no ties under the rules anymore. I would not have wanted to foot the bill to pay for either of these teams to spend an extra night just to complete the game to satisfy anyone. Then, as I said earlier, you have to find rooms for everyone and with the weather issue, those were probably filling up fast.
The fact that the game ended the way that it did has no impact on anyone but the two teams involved. There are a lot of other issues out there to be concerned over that matter and the fact that no one at this game, as far as we know, was in a dangerous situation should say that the right call was made to get everyone out of a potentially very dangerous situation.
