Keys to the car?

An analogy that is mentioned occasionally on the football board is "keys to the car." Where the departing coach is handing over "keys" to the incoming coach who will continue "driving" the program at speed or run it into a tree.

Does anyone think LK can leave the basketball program in that sort of condition if/when he departs in the next few seasons?

There is no question when LK leaves, the program will be in great shape. The only ones who would think otherwise probably reside in bozone, and their numbers are probably small.

Here is why you may not want to be Wayne Tinkle, and follow LK:

1. First, the obvious. There may be no where to go but down. Larry should have a great year next year, and will likely leave on top. Hard to follow that.

2. Brad Huse is going to get the Cats back in the thick of things. That may be happening about the time that we have a coaching change. Any idea how the Griz fans would handle Tinks coming in, and the Cats beating us?

AS the saying goes, you don't want to follow a legend. You want to be the guy who follows the guy who follows the legend.

I woulodn't seel Tinks short. If you talk to Larry he will tell you how much Tinks means to the program. There is no reason to believe Tinks won't be successful when he gets his shot. To think only Huse can do it is silly.

If Tinkle is in fact Krysko's future replacement, wouldn't he have more advantages than disadvantages? Such as familiarity with players and calibre of incoming recruits. Of course all of this is premature speculation. Who knows...maybe Tinkle will be lured away before that time comes. But I think I need to stop obsessing about departures and be happy knowing that Griz basketball is back in a big way. Next season should be a fine year that hopefully will bring a third consecutive trip to the dance. I just wish I could see a game

Basically you are saying that Larry will be a tough act to follow. I agree, but I don't see how this wouldn't apply to any coach that takes over, or how Huse being at MSU factors into the equation. Wayne will already have a relationship with the players and a few good years of service and learning under Kyrsko. We will be in good hands.

Gee, and I thought Larry was staying? Maybe we'd be better off he were leaving instead of having to delay the (maybe) Tinkle era in - what- one two, three, ten years, My, such impatience. Can we just enjoy the Krysko era while it's here? Is GrizNation's glass only half full?

This was absolutely not meant as a slam to Tinks. I think he will be a great coach for us. But I disagree that Brad will not factor into the equation at MSU. I think he is going to be a great coach for the Cats (unfortunately). I think he will be a good recruiter, and game coach.

I just think the Cats being good under Huse will make it harder for whoever follows Krysko to be considered on the same level as Krysko. And if you aren't on the same level, are you going to be as "loved"? Would Krysko be considered as successful if the Griz had gone .500 against the Cats during his tenure? I would guess not.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, once again, I am very much in favor of Tinks taking over when Krysko goes. I think he will be a great coach for us.

nycgriz;
jump on a damn airplane and come watch the griz dismantle brad huse's troops in his return visit to dahlberg.

Larry has done well-but UM Hoops has a way to go. Recruiting needs to continue to do well; the schedule needs to feature a few more markee teams e.g. Stanford, etc and things need to continue on the upswing. PSU will continue to improve with Bone as a coach,
MSU will get tougher, I am not sure about EWU. Burns has failed to
do much-without Stuckey they would have been a bottomfeeder.
The Athletic Dept needs to support Hoops-with Larry staying
there is no reason Griz shouldn't do well.
