Keys to beating NAU

Dont Kick 2 Bergen

1. Do NOT play Ah Yat at all just do what Hauck does and let the manager keep the game close.

2. Play more man coverage on defense when you don't have the horses to run that scheme. Do NOT play zone much if at all.
3. Absolutely do NOT let Gilman have more than 1--15 plays on the field. Just get him his 3 TDs and then save him for next year.

Keep it close, always take your foot off the gas. This is imperative to victory

That “manager” has put up 52 and 48 points the last two weeks. He ain’t the problem.

NAU defense has been pretty consistent this year. Their only truly bad half of the first 6 games was the second half of the Incarnate Word game. NAU competed on the road @ U of Arizona and put a licking on Sacramento State. Defense has had a monumental turn around under Wright.

NAU offense is hot and cold. Things aren't looking good as first string QB - Pennington - was injured @ U Idaho and never returned after getting thrown to the turf. It could be a concussion? It could be a shoulder/arm? NAU is always tight lipped about this kind of stuff so expect to hear who will start right before the game on Saturday. NAU's QB #2 - Flores - didn't make the trip to U Idaho. School says he's nursing an injury. Pretty tight lipped about that as well. Jacks were down to QB #3 - PJ London - who got his first sizeable playing time in a while. Guy competed well but doesn't seem to have the arm strength of the other two. If Pennington is back, NAU should be able to compete on Saturday. If not...... no matter how rough your defense has been, I don't see an NAU team winning at Washington-Grizzly stadium with a 3rd string QB getting his first start/major playing time in ages.

One thing I think you can be sure of is NAU will take a long hard look at the UM/WSU game. What ever needs to be cleaned up needs to be done this week. It may be something as simple as always leaving at least one safety back on every play, or spacing your linebackers out a little bit. I don't know enough about NAU's O, but it sounds like they are spreading the field a bit.

Pennington has a concussion. One of my old drinking buddies hangs out and panhandles around nau and heard straight from staff he was in concussion protocol

#1 makes sense. Fife is our only hope. 700 yards and 7 TD passes in the last two games kept us in range.

Change the defensive scheme to a 3-4-5. Adding one more defensive player to the field of play should have happened THREE games ago and it's flat out negligence we don't have 12 men on the field.
Agreed. It's just bad coaching. What they need to do (beyond the 12th man) is to tell the defense not to let the other team advance the ball. And on offense, why aren't the coaches telling the players to score and not to turn the ball over? It's mind-bottling.

People are clamoring for more zone, but are we sure that any of the LBs can drop and be effective in coverage? I'm not.
I was joking.

The only LB that can cover is Wilson my zone comment was making fun of people that think that will fix the problem on defense. It won't but they always think its an easy switch to fix personnel problems. Its not the coaches unless you blame recruiting, its not scheme, its execution on the field and its not getting done. Too much thinking and reacting makes you slower than you are.

I know, this wasn't intended for you.

So if the players fail to execute none of that is on the coaches?
