Key Moments

Okay, so I'm a little late in doing this at the mid-season mark of conference play. But I'm curious to know what your 3 key moments are in the season so far. They can be obvious (as you'll see with my #1), or much more under the radar, as you'll see in selection #3.

I'm curious to hear what your key moments are which have kept the GRIZ undefeated.

My Three:

1) Wise's Three Ball vs. the cats: This is the obvious choice. Let's be honest. Without it, we've got a digit in the "L" column. And what's more, that shot -- much like mouthwash -- helped clean away the bad taste of what had been a nightmare of a sports season up until then. And beyond all that, that shot was pure CLUTCH and a thing of beauty.

2) Spence getting his hands on the overthrow on "Lumberjack" during the weebs game. If he doesn't get to that ball, weebs in-bounds under their own basket with 3 seconds left, down just 2 with a chance to tie or win. Great hustle play that pretty much sealed the deal for the Griz.

3) With 8:00 left in the very first conference game of the year, the Griz were in a battle with NAU on the road in Flagstaff (always a tough place to win). Will was in his first game, and clearly wasn't in game shape. KJ was struggling some, and the Griz trailed for much of the game. In fact, they had taken their first lead since the 17 minute mark of the first half just moments before what I believe was a key play to get that win, and get the season rolling. With the Griz up 2, Wise gets the ball on the wing, pump fakes the three, and gets his man in the air. He then drives baseline and sees Ward cutting directly down the lane. With a beautiful pass, he gives it up to a crashing Ward, who slamma jammas that baby down with 2 hands, forcing an NAU timeout and giving the Griz all the momentum, which they didn't relingquish the remainder of the game. One of the prettiest (and most timely) plays of the year.

3(a): Ward's 30 footer at the buzzer to beat the shot clock in that same game when NAU was trying to get back into it.

So, what are yours?

1. Weis' 3 ball vs the cats
2. Hendos 3 ball against (und?) For the win - showed Tinks was willing to let "role" players take final shot instead of the usual "big 3" of Cherry, Jamar, or Ward - also probably gave Tinks more confidence that he could dial up anybody to take the game winning shot
3. DeShields "ball steal", behind the back, fake pass, layup finish - think that really sparked his confidence to "play at this level" and really showed his growth as a player in keeping under control and able to finish strong. Without that play, I don't know if he plays with that much confidence the remaining games. Which is huge considering hes the "defacto" backup point guard to Cherry.

*San Diego, I think.

Excellent thread! and you started with some good choices too! I would agree with two
1. Weis' 3 ball vs the cats
2. DeShields "ball steal",
but I would add
3. Coleman's dunk during the first half of the weebs game. The crowd and players seemed to be in a funk to start the game and it seemed to go on and on and on. That play energized the crowd and players, it sure seemed like WC was a different player after that, and to me, it changed the tenor and outcome of the game. A home loss to weebs would have killed.
