Kentucky, Arizona, Oregon, Purdue, Oklahoma & NC-State

I just want to comment on this post about the "comparison" to teams like Kentucky, Arizona, and NC State having a lower RPI then the Griz. If in some way you're thinking because of this that the Griz are a better team then you really need to get out of Missoula and watch some real basketball, I mean who are you kidding. I've been reading a lot of these posts about how much better the Griz are to UM-Western, and obviously I'm a Western fan and I do agree with some of the things that I've read. Yes the Griz and the Big Sky are much better then the Frontier schools. You really need to use that brilliant basketball wisdom of yours and use the same reflection when your talking about the Griz and teams like Kentucky and Arizona.

You're right, mid-majors really have no chance of getting to the post season and competing with the traditional powers

Sincerely,

Vermont & UW-Milwaukee

P.S. - It's called parity and it is a reality in college sports these days.

P.P.S.

Go straight to hell and take that unimpressive Dillon worldliness with you.

I have to say, my wife and I are die hard football fans and we take in a few Lady Griz games as well. I've never been to a mens game but we are making plans to go to the game on the 30th. This team excites me!!! :thumb:

The team is good but why put Purdue in there. They have sucked the past couple of years. Their RPI being that low is no big surprise. While we may lose to an Arizona or Kentucky the RPI shows we have a great product out on the floor. If you are not excited for Griz basketball then be that way. All I know is the last time I remembered excitement around Griz basketball like this was the back to back BSC tiltle runs in 91 and 92.

Hey DawgFan, as long as your here, let me ask you a question...HOW'D YA LIKE THAT BEAT-DOWN YOUR BOYS GOT THE OTHER NIGHT?

Now, scuttle on back to the Frontier Conference message board and save your smack for all the Montana Tech and Westminster College fans.

Lets see... Griz 110 Western 71 compared to...

#1 seed Washington 88 #16 seed Griz 77
#12 Seed Wisconsin-Mil 83 #5 Seed Alabama 73
#12 Seed Wisconsin-Mil 83 #4 Seed Boston College 75
#14 Seed Bucknell 64 #3 Seed Kansas 63

Also look at #16 seed FDU coming within 12 points of #1 seed Illinois (Who played in the championship game). Saying the Griz playing against Western, is like the Griz playing against NC State, Kentucky or Arizona is pretty innacurate.. The Griz, Kentucky, NC State and Arizona, while in different conferences, are all in the same division.

The Griz have the higher RPI right now due to their strength of schedule compared to these teams, and the fact that they've beaten some good teams out there like Drake, Utah Valley State (who is suprising some people this year) Loyola two times, and Stanford who was ranked #13 or 14 in the country earlier this year, and who has 3 legit NBA prospects on their team.

The Griz are getting some notice too now. They are #25 in the Mid Major poll, had a vote on the AP poll, have had a article or two about them on ESPN's site, and...oh look..are mentioned on the front college basketball page on www.espn.com

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/index (Look in the Mids to Watch section)

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?id=2259284 (Full Article)

And, a picture of Larry Kryskowiak, along with a a section about the Griz was on the front page at the top of http://www.collegeinsider.com/ on the 12th of December.

all these rpi #s are cool and all, but once the conference season starts teams like Kentucky's rpi will soar given they play in a better conference.

still i REALLY like the way the team is headed.

come on people get real Carrol played the Boobcats to within a point so the argument could be made at the frontier conference level as well. I am a huge Griz fan but the one thing I hate is that we have this misconception that anyone outside of MT that didn't live in MT or go to UM really doesn't give a damn or for that matter even know about UM sports. Yeah once in a while we get a charity story from ESPN but that doesn't mean anyone else even cares. Get over yourselves. We have a good basketball team this year & we should enjoy it but give me a break with saying they're better than UK, NC St.

GG, I don't think anyone thinks the Griz are necessarily better than those teams. But in the NCAA, it's all about RPI. And the fact that our RPI is currently better than those schools is certainly noteworthy.
