If this guy was such a hot item, why didn't he move on a long time ago? He could have been AD in some major athletic program. We needed a national search for this?

He almost did - nearly had the NAU AD job in December 2011.

Almost doesnt count except in horseshoes & hand grenades, and perhaps women.

Why don't you whiners stand behind the man now and let him perform his job for a couple years and then judge him on his job performance instead of forming a lynch mob on day 1????

JFC, some of you people make me sick. What a bunch of sand laden vagina pussies! As much as I love Griz Nation, sometimes I wish a few of you would just drive off a fcking cliff!!!!

Whiner? lmao....I made a joke. The fact is he didnt get a job at NAU. I personally could careless if he did or didnt get that one. But I must admit thats some first class whining you did....lol.

or, he was told he would have the inside track to the um job, which gave him the opportunity to spend several months schmoozing the 'right' people before he applied. that giant head start would obviously give him a big advantage.

put that in your conspiracy pipe and smoke it!

I'm tickled by the choice, you are "dissapointed" by it. Let us know who would you have hired and why? Or do you even know? Did you listen to each and every candidates interviews? Why was Haslam a poor choice?

Also, I wasn't singling you out on this just everybody on the anti Haslam bandwagon before the man even has a chance to do his job.

I actually liked all 4 finalists. I simply would not have hired an insider...nothing against him personally. If the choice was to go a new direction, then this was not a decision in line with that thought process. I could tell you who I preferred but why start another 30 threads on that, under this topic. I hope he does well, but I do believe he was the choice for a couple of reasons that wont be popular.

1) I believe he is a team player, on Engstrom's team. Clapp or Johnson for example are older, and would have ideas that RE may not like. So if someone has a problem with RE, but likes this choice then I dont understand that, because he is RE's personal choice.

2) I would guess from a fiscal sense, he was cheaper to get. Not necessarily bad but if you have two choices that are close, and you can pay one 50K less a year (only an example), then that would influence your decision making process also.

In the end, he probably was not the best qualified (most experienced), but he had the "IT" thing going for him. Can't think of the word....oh yeah...he had some very good tangibles.

I don't believe he was a cheaper get the AD's base salary would have been the same for all.

I talked to Haslam for a short while at last years Cat/Griz game in Bozeman....he was understandibly very ecstatic [duh....I wonder why??] Seems like a real nice straight up guy.....well he should be since he is Mormon....no coffee drinking, no coke or pepsi, and certainily no alcohol.....hey.....sounds like the next President!!! Seriously though.....I hope he works out....too much time has gone bye all ready!!!!

Actually was on his way there to accept the job when the shit with O'Day and Pflu hit. Was called as he was on his way, and said they were going to do something else as a result. But I am sure you knew that, as well connected as you are.

This is the story I heard as well.

Yes, the truth.

Please
you're welcome

wow - some pretty amazing stuff.

What a lot of folks don't seem to realize here is that being and "insider" Kent was actually the outside choice! The last thing on planet earth than a radical left wing academic suddenly placed in a position of authority wants is a straight arrow with a solid moral compass who, oh by the way, happens to have solid ties to the community, the state, the University and the Conference who was also trusted by his (now) predecessor. Kent was absolutely the best call here and the call was made INSPITE of R.E.'s personal feelings, certainly not because of them. Engstrom wanted a bureaucrat like King he could control but the support for Kent, coupled with his entire career which pointed dirctly to a DI AD position and Engstrom's clear understanding after a full year of stepping in it more often than Mr. Wu's hogs in Deadwood, resulted in R.E. swallowing hard and making a choice he didn't want.

Remeber R.E. IS THE OUTSIDER here. Everything he has done so far has been to purge the upper ranks of the U Admin of Montanans and folks with Montana lyalties and replace them (or plan to) with outsiders who do not have Griz Nation's best interests at heart but rather a slavish desire to create a "global community" out of a heretofore quite successful Mountain West Regional university (that's geography not NCAA conference for those of you in bong alley).

Kent is solid. R.E. made the right call but he did it to save his wn ass professionally. R.E. will say all the right things but his ambitions lie elsewhere.

This is one of many resons Kent needs Griz Nation's solid support. Do not let R.E. begin what inevitably will be an effort to undermine Kent from day one.

The "insider" was actually the ultimate "outside choice". Fortunately the stars aligned to let that happen.

His "inside status" brings us one thing we badly need in Griz Nation and that is continuity in the face of upheaval.

Godspeed KH

OK, the man has been hired. So when do you all expect to hear from him as to what he intends to do differently than O'Day and Pflu to insure, what they did, will not result in the new guy being fired next week?

Whether he turns out to be good or not is not the issue here. It is the constant charade that UM goes through every time there is an opening, with their 'national search", and "we will hire the best candidate" mantra, only to do what we all knew before the COSTLY process. It get old.

You have bragged about how you could pick up the phone and call UM Presidents and get things done, but then again, we all know you are so full of shit it is laughable. The only charade is you living in your little dream world where you actually are someone, besides the short old little POS named Stevie Dill

i heard he was in a meeting with his team when he got the call. Walked out and didn't say a thing to them. But that might have been someone else, I'm not sure.

I've got a theory, here, re: how UM works in hiring people for key positions. Hire the best people you can for subordinate positions (assistant ADs, asst. coaches, UM provosts, etc.). Give them 4, 5, 6 years on the job to acclimate to UM. When the top position opens, do a national search, just for show, then hire the "inside" guy/gal, whom you've groomed in the first place. IOW, hire outsiders for subordinate jobs, then if/when the top position opens, hire them, even though it may appear they are insiders.

How else can you explain the Engstrom/Delaney/Haslam hires? I'm not questioning the abilities of these people. They all obviously had to have the qualifications specified in the position openings. And, there are probably many exceptions to what I say. But, it seems there's enough pattern, here, to suggest that when any opening occurs for a top job at UM, and there's a UM person also applying, that any outsiders should not waste their time.

Only Ms. here are the MILFs I steal from from their panty waste hubbies or the look on a raghead's face when the only thing he sees behind the muzzle of an MP5K is StrikeAngel's SawFlys

I just get a great feeling in knowing that every inside candidate we present in a national search is the best, 100% of the time. We are sooooo fortunate to have such unique talent within our school, just waiting for the chance to display their skills!
