Kendrick Van Ackeren

I'd like to make a prediction. If Kendrick Van Ackeren drops the 8 to 15 pounds and plays safety, he'll be a D-I-AA All-American within 2 years.

It's the "who cares" attitude that has us in the place we are right now with bad publicity and players and former players doing illegal things. Yup, "who cares?" I do,and while I'm happy for the commitment. Looks like one helluva talent. It seams a bit strange. He started 10 games as an underclassmen and has a twin brother on the team. Lots of reasons to stay. Maybe he was homesick. Just seams odd to leave your bro.

Several facts: They're not twins, Brayden is 18 months older than Kendrick. They're both academically solid with GPAs of 3.3 and higher in Business. They're intelligent young men that excel in academics and athletics. They're solid citizens. I don't think living in Missoula will corrupt their strong sense of ethics. :)

Whoa, whoa, WHOA. Ease up on the FACTS there, Mr. Jones. This board doesn't deal well with facts in large doses.

'Em the facts Jack ... :thumb:

They sound like good young men, KJ. You'll have to make it to Missoula to see your son play.

If Kendrick doesn't have to sit a year, for the 2013-14 season, I'll plan several visits to the away games in California.

Why would he sit a year? He's transferring down.

Just saw this tweet.

Bellevue Football ‏@BellevueFB
'10 Captain&State POY Kendrick VanAckeren has committed to the @UMGRIZZLIES !!! Great pick up for the Griz. Congrats K2!Go Bellevue! #family

Kendrick had originally signed with Hawaii out of HS.

EDIT: I was able to get confirmation through a source on the Bellevue staff that Van Ackeren is definitely going to Montana.

-C.

Damn, I hate it that nobody good wants to play here anymore! Welcome Kendrick, looking forward to seeing you in a Griz uniform.

I remember Pflu really wanted this kid.

I think he'll add great depth to the safety spot, but lets wait and see how he does before we anoint him an All American. :thumb:

It's up to the Hawai'i program ... examples, Brayden Van Ackeren moved up from DI-AA to DI-A and had to sit a year; Kavario Middleton moved down from DI-A to DI-AA and had to sit a year.

I wish collegiate athletes would organize an association with the power to gain leverage on NCAA and universities.

Ken,

I'm not aware of any provisions that allow a school from which a player is transfering to require the player to sit a year if they transfer to an FCS team. If you transfer up, yes. But one of the benefits of transfering to an FCS program is that the NCAA waives that requirement.

Middleton didn't sit a year. He transfered in from Washington in 2010 and played that year.

So, you should definitely plan some trips, including at least one to Missoula to watch Kendrick play! :thumb:

Kavario Middleton did not have to sit a year, as he transferred down. You do not have to sit a year when you transfer down. Another example, Ellis Henderson transferred from Hawaii to UM last spring/summer. He was a starter all Fall for us.

I stand corrected. Well, there goes my excuse ... lol. I've a client in Calgary. A non-league game in August or early September is possible ... mix a little business with pleasure. 8-)

How's the weather in September? :thumb:

Definitely! Weather in September is GREAT. The first couple of games of the season can be very hot. By late September it's perfect.

SS KVA/Gamboa
FS Hermanson/Lebsock(hope he's healthy)

Rominger and Whitted rotating in.....

The safety position is looking better

Hopefully safety can stay healthy this year. I really do think a healthy Hermanson that can be paired up with a better run-supporting safety (and one that doesn't get fooled nearly as much) will really work out. Similar to what we saw in 2011 with McCord/Hermanson starting in the last 1/3 of the season.

Hermey/KVA start - Gamboa, Whitted, Rominger, all good rotate in and play, Lebsock too assuming he's past the injury issues. Safety might actually be deep and fairly serviceable... crazy. And who knows, maybe Tully has a turnaround. Honestly I hope he does, I never wish against any kid that's a Griz - considering the sacrifice he's made to play for the team.

Some guys in this spot will have a long way to go, especially with a new coach coming in. No favorites most likely, a wide-open battle.

Plus I really think the corners are going to settle in which I believe will help out the safeties a bunch. This Van Ackeren recruit is huge for The Griz. He sounds like a kid that can play as well as bring on the field leadership. Good get for Delaney :thumb:

How is Lebsock doing with his rehab? I thought someone mentioned he may move to linebacker.

Have we started spring practice yet?

Van Ackeren wanted out of the windy climate with the sun beating down on him. Much prefers Montana as it makes his blood turn a maroon color and gets the blue tinge out!

Another good get!

Gotta Love It...we get another standout from our pipeline at UH! I see him going back to saftey dropping maybe 5-8 lbs & elevating our athleticism in the secondary. Cant wait for spring ball DB battles should be very interesting; WRs will be more athletic & dynamic with the in the words of Mick "its the QBs job to know his personnel & adjust accordingly..." as they run the same routes regardless to who is receiving the snaps. Plus he's another quality person to add to the stockpile of great young men already on the roster. Keep up the strong recruiting gentlemen!

I'm assuming young Mr. Henderson is familiar with Mr. Van Ackeren... ;)
Same recruiting class at Hawaii...It is safe to say you are correct in your assumption!
