Kendrick Van Ackeren

It's the "who cares" attitude that has us in the place we are right now with bad publicity and players and former players doing illegal things. Yup, "who cares?" I do,and while I'm happy for the commitment. Looks like one helluva talent. It seams a bit strange. He started 10 games as an underclassmen and has a twin brother on the team. Lots of reasons to stay. Maybe he was homesick. Just seams odd to leave your bro.

I would agree that it would be odd to leave your brother behind. However, you completely took my comment out of context. My opinion is I dont care why he choose to come back to the NW to play for the Griz.

He's a quality young man from a proven HS program and was originally interested in being in Missoula. Glad he's back and playing for the Griz in 2013. He has 3 years of eligibility left. Hopefully his brother will follow shortly, but he may have an academic interest that fits UH.

Here's his UH profile http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=11531&path=football" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Great job Mick & Co. Since he is a transfer I'm assuming he will be enrolled within the next 10 days or so.

Sweeeeet!!!!

Welcome to Griz Nation, Kendrick! Prepare to win Championships!!

You guys should take baby steps and just hope for a winning season in 2013. Also, this looks to be shaping up to be the best ever recruiting class for you guys?

How did Van Ackeren, at 200 pounds, get moved to linebacker?
Funny, with the younger Ngynn, Morales and Van Ackeren, the Griz have the key backfield components for Bellevue's option offense.

I wondered that as well, when looking at Hawaii's website. Seems VERY light for a LB. Maybe he didn't have FBS speed for safety?

There are actually a lot of FBSand FCS teams that use smaller faster guys at one of the outside LBer positions where they are kind of a hybrid type guy. Can hit but have speed to cover ground and slot recievers. Bud Foster at VA Tech does it and Miami used to do it, they might still but I haven't watched a Miami game in years.

FWIW, Brayden Van Ackeren, who was a year ahead of his brother at Bellevue, class of 2010, transferred to Hawaii from (FCS) San Diego after Kendrick committed to the Warriors, according to the Seattle Times. So, Brayden would have two years left and Kendrick would have three? (2 + redshirt)

In the safety position he reminds me of a young Mr Anderson. Just a bit slow and a bit small.....

What's interesting about that is there is no Brayden Van Ackeren listed on the Hawaii roster.

He lost his scholarship, he was told either return as a walk on or transfer. As there were a few others.too. I see a CB on the list, maybe he will bring a friends :)

Right, but that's the 2011 Roster. The 2012 roster (which lists Kendrick), does not have Brayden. :? :?

Well they are twins, AZ. Maybe Brayden didn't work out. A guy transferring from FCS San Diego might face an uphill climb in Hawaii. Given the quality of the schools that looked at him, he's probably a good student. Maybe he got out of sports all together.

Brayden Van Ackeren, Kendrick's older brother by seventeen months, transferred from the University of San Diego football program to the University of Hawai'i. Brayden was a second-team all-league WR as a senior and his junior year, he was all-league special teams POY. Additionally, Brayden lettered in basketball.

If Brayden Van Ackeren joins his brother at the University of Montana and still has the desire to participate in football, the University of Montana football program will have pulled off a double steal from the University of Hawai'i.
