Keali'i Ah Yat Redemption Tour - Indiana State

This year is also KAY's redemption tour to prove all the haters and doubters wrong. KAY really, really impressed and stood out in this game.

KAY was 22-27 (81.4%!!) for 313 yards, 2 TDs, 1 run for 14 yards and a TD, and a 203.3 QB rating!! He stayed in the pocket and made passes under duress with defenders in his face within moments of hitting him. He completed passes with different arm angles and while on the move (aka Mahomes). He rolled out to his left and right and made passes on target and in rhythm with the receiver to gain YAC. IMO, one of his most impressive plays was doing a reverse roll to his left to escape pressure when the ISU LB was unblocked and hitting Bohannon with a dart for a first down. His ability to roll to his left as a right-handed QB and hit receivers on target and in rhythm is nothing short of amazing, especially after completing a reverse roll. GRIZ NATION!!! We are in for an unbelievable season with KAY as QB.

His completion percentage should have been higher. Not because he missed passes. Receivers dropped some balls. Ah Yat’s ability to mature and hang in the pocket is impressive. Massive progression since last year.
 
His 1st quarter pass deep in GRIZ territory, under pressure, for 26 yards was a big boy pass. He couldn't step forward much, it was all arm. Right on target.

His td pass to Devers was perfect. It hit Devers in full stride.

He's keeping his eyes up field on most pass plays. He's going through progressions. He knows where his potential receivers are. He's utilizing his TE well. He's looking very confident and decisive in the pocket.

The only questions I have, will Peace limit him against better teams, or are the reigns off? How much more is in the playbook?
 
Last year I was one of those doubters, and Keali'i had some really rough games, but I admired the kid because he played his guts out--there was no lack of effort: Keali'i left it all on the field. And to be fair to him, he was only a redshirt freshman !!!

This year, his mental and physical maturation have been through the roof--he's no longer the relatively puny 6-1, 180 lb freshman but a muscular 6-1, 200 sophomore and his numbers have been through the fricking roof, and we are witnessing not only improvement year over year, but game over game--no pic's yesterday, a career passing record of 312 yards. !!!

Keali'i is not as good as Brian yet, but he's on his way and he has a chance to do something his dad didn't do during his illustrious GRIZ career: win a national championship(s) !!!

Go GRIZ. !!!
 
Watching Kyler Murray now. KAY has similar abilities. He’s not Murray but neither is the FCS the NFL. Gonna be fun to watch his development.

I felt like the TD to Gale was actually the best, even though he was 15 yards in the clear. When KAY came out there, he turned, set his feet and showed perfect form where a lot of QB's with his age and experience would have gotten excited at the open man, throwing off the wrong leg and missed.
To quote his coach, "The sky is the limit for Keali'i."
 
Making the pilgrimage up from Billings to the NEZ for the big Idaho-Montana game coming up this Saturday--this game should be another big test for not only Keali'i but for our entire team. I am excited to learn what grade we earn for this tough mental and physical test-- I'm thinking a B or an A.

I've been a doubter and I think we need to take a massive grain of salt based upon our opponent. But KAY has looked very good the last 6 quarters. I think Hauck and Pease have finally taken the training wheels off him because he looks confident and dynamic. That rollout play in the 2nd quarter where the spins to his left and hits a man on the sideline was an elite throw. He's also shown great touch on some deep balls and seems to make better decisions with the ball. These are the flashes we keep hearing about now he just needs to put together 4 quarters against a legitimate contender. Idaho is a different beast and if he wins this game I will eat massive crow and never speak ill of the man again.
