The GRIZ basketball program runs a clean program, and slowly building some momentum. I hope this helps get some more fans behind what Coach Tinkle is building, in the other sport, that too many of you don't give a crap about. I hope this will at least help some of you see we do have another very good program. :thumb:

Many of us care about all athletic programs at UM. No doubt, Wayne Tinkle is doing a first rate job with the basketball program. :thumb:

If the Griz had a Checkers team, I would root for them. However I, and I think most people, fallow the big three sports. Football, Basketball and Women's Basketball. If the Tennis team sweeps the bobcats, I am happy, but I don't look for the netters section in the Missoulian. Go Griz, all Griz.

I've got to wonder how long the contract extentions for Tink's and Selvig
will continue to gather dust on Royce Engstroms desk?

I love griz football and am equally as passionate about griz hoops.....but is it possible the size of the roster has something to do with "running a clean program". Keeping a hand full of kids on the straight and narrow has got to be an easier task for wayne than keeping a hundred football players on that same path. Not trying to discredit wayne at all, cuz he has done an incredible job, but it has to be easier dealing with a smaller amount of players.

interested if anybody sees eye to eye with me on that.

so you are implying the Griz run a "dirty" football program because no basketball players have drawn bad ink from the rag missoulian? if that is what you are saying then you must believe the coaches are responsible for this behaviour, maybe even look the other way? if not, what exactly are you suggesting?

There is no doubt that keeping 15 student athletes under close scrutiny is a great deal easier than keeping 100+ under the same control. Even Tinkle had a problem with the 7' kid out of Australia that was caught stealing out of dorm rooms a few years back. All things considered, I certainly agree that Wayne is doing a stellar job with his athletes and the program in general.

However if we are passing out kudos to coaches at UM Robin Selvig deserves the lion's share. He has run a truly quality program for over 30 years that has done the University, Missoula and Montana proud. How many of us reflect on just how rare that is? Here is to Robin and his staff!

Robin Selvig is, without a doubt, the most respected and best overall coach the University of Montana has ever had in any sport. PERIOD! He's a UM Hall of Famer hands down. We should all thank our lucky stars for his presence on our beloved campus. Lady Griz hoops is the best small school program in the nation for a reason and that reason is Robin Selvig. And he's done it with mostly Montana girls. Kudos to Robin and all he's done for UM.

Credit should be given where credit is due. Jim O'Day has done an excellent job with the so called non revenue sports such as men's and women's tennis and women's soccer. Kudos as well to the coaches of these excellent programs and one very special coach, Kris Nord who has been a coach at UM for at least 100 years.

I am not even going there on this, out of respect to other egrizzers. I will keep it at, the GRIZ have 2 great basketball programs, with great coaches, and players, which are worthy of our support, and they have earned that. Interpret the "dirty" part to your own thinking, or leave it to the Missoulian to continue digging up dirt on it, justified, or not.

As for the Missoulian, I am tired of a lot of crap they report locally, and that goes well beyond the GRIZ!

The rest is open for anyone to interpret any way they please. :thumb:
