Maybe he went to junior high school and high school in Bozeman, and then became a Griz fan after leaving Bozeman. I doubt he's the only kid who grew up in Bozeman as a Cat fan, who later became a Griz fan. How about all the Bozeman kids who have played for the Griz? Not all of them grew up Griz fans.

PR is from Miles City, they are almost all cat fans, it's not a big deal that when he was a lad in Miles city he was a cat fan. Then he made his way to the big city of Missoula, got laid a few times and saw the light. Simple as that.
