9-11-01 is coming to an end. Surprised and disappointed to see not one mention of this terrible day in our history on EGRIZ. God Bless to everyone who lost someone from this, and those who were lost. I pray for the day there will world wide peace again. Thank you and appreciation to every person of many careers who put their lives on the line for others.

I will always remember that day. I just moved back to Missoula and moved into a place way up Whitaker Drive. A friend called me, which woke me up. She said, how can you be sleeping, with what is going on? I thought she was joking. I asked, "What is going on?" She said, "Just shut up and turn on the tv to any station." I then knew she was serious. I could not believe what my eyes were seeing, nor what I was hearing. I so wanted it to be a nightmare to wake up from. All be damn, I was glued to the TV and radio for close to 2 weeks every free second I had.

A few days later, I stopped at job service looking for better work. As I come into the building, a young Muslim student was walking out. He was in tears and shaking. I watched him approach his family, his father and mother were outside. I heard him say something like, "I can't go anywhere in peace now. Everyone is staring at me, and saying bad things about us. I did nothing. How can we live in the USA any longer? "

Granted, I would have never forgotten 9-11-01 no matter what, but seeing the other side of that tragedy made it even more tragic. That young man was so scared and upset. That was the moment in life that got me to be a lot more open minded to how others think and feel.

How did 9-11-01 impact others? What do you remember from it?

Also I remember how tightly united our country was after that. The next GRIZ home game was truly special. I saw a lot of tears in WAGRIZ that game.

When 9/11 hit, I was only in 7th grade. I remember getting ready to go to school and then my parents had the TV on right before I walked out the door. Once I got to school, every classroom had the televisions on and we watched the second plane hit. The worst part was seeing the towers fall one after another. The school went into lockdown mode all day and we just watched the news in disbelief... I remember having trouble falling asleep that night wondering if there were more attacks coming. I thank God for the men and women who fight to protect this country to make sure something as terrible as what happened never happens again.

Good post. However - there has never been world peace, and I don't believe there ever will be.

The one part of that entire day that I've never been able to get out of my mind is all the people hanging out of the windows, fighting for air, likely burning... until they either jumped or fell to the ground.

watched a documentary last year where they had footage of inside the buildings.... you could hear the 'thud' of the bodies as they hit the ground & vehicles.... very chilling.... the horror & fear the people had to have running through them to come to the conclusion that jumping was the best option.... God bless their souls!

I was scheduled to fly to Chicago that morning. When my alarm clock -- set to a news station -- went off, literally the first sentence I heard was "All US flights are grounded". Not knowing what was going on, my wife and I just starred at one another, unsure how what we knew we just heard could be true.

We then turned on the TV. I rarely cry, but I cried a lot that day.

The next spring, we were in NYC. We visited Ground Zero, and in particular St. Paul's Chapel, the rear of which faces the Towers, and which somehow miraculously survived the destruction of the them. The church became a refuge for first responders and later the construction crews. For months, volunteers cooked, counseled, made beds, etc for them. When we visited, the church remained much as it was that horrible day. Even today, the church retains many of the banners sent from all of the world, as well as an extensive collection of photos and other sacred reminders. If you go to NYC and visit Ground Zero, do not miss St. Paul's Chapel. I go every time I'm there.

Good post. Thanks for starting it.

I was serving in the Air Force at Offutt AFB in NE at Stratcom HQ that day. When the full weight of that day's events were realized, our leadership told most of us to go home and be with our families and stay by the phone. We knew all air traffic had been grounded nation wide. We were watching the news and we heard fighter aircraft flying over our house and I thought that it could only be fighter escort for Air Force 1. We went outside on our deck, looked up and sure enough, Air Force 1 was landing at Offutt so President Bush could use our Command Center. It still all brings chills when we remember. God bless the families who lost loved ones that day and in the battles that followed and the ones to come.

I for one will never forget... because that day is my birthday.

Each year I hold my breath all day, nervous about what may happen.

Each year I think that it will come and I will be able to celebrate on my date... but that is just not possible.

My only fear it that we as a countrys leaders are acting insane.
"Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome"

Evil is evil... I just wish our "leaders" understood.... I for one WILL NEVER FORGET!

I did not personally know anybody who died on 9/11, nor do I know anybody who lost a family member on that day. But I told myself I wasn't going to let those assholes accomplish their only goal - causing fear and panic.

my recollection of the day.... woke up and turned the TV on.... saw the fire in the first tower and they were talking about a plane slamming into the building and not knowing what size the plane was.... my only thought at the time was 'how are they going to put the fire out?'.... a couple minutes later the second plane hit.... immediately yelled to my wife to get out of bed and come look at the TV.... we sat there for a few minutes in disbelief.... i went to work.... was actually in the field doing the Butte SD #1 audit and everyone in the admin building was glued to the TV in the conference room. next thing i know everyone is sobbing as the first building collapsed.... my daughter was 6 months old and i recall thinking 'good thing she isn't old enough to realize what is going on'....

09.11 - Navy Commander (now retired) stationed @ the Pentagon and was called away for a meeting in Crystal City. During the meeting, we were notified the 1st tower had been hit, and shortly afterwards, the 2nd plane had been driven into the remaining tower. There was nothing less than turmoil and speculation of who was behind the deadly acts. As we watched the local news, American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon followed by the fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, which was targeted at Washington, D.C., but crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after its heroic passengers tried to overcome the hijackers.

Please never forget the individuals that were lost that day and the cost of FREEDOM as there is always a cost either abroad or within our homeland.

Quite the day for my family. My parents and my sister were in Butte - waiting for her to be shipped out to Great Lakes for basic training to join the Navy. They were at the Armed Forces offices when everything went on lock down. Imagine their fears and concerns of a different world on the very day that their youngest was supposed to join the Navy. Due to flights being cancelled she came back home for a few days and shipped out later in the week.

I was at home, my wife called me from her office to see if I'd heard the news. I hadn't. She told me that "We're at war, someone attacked us," I was just leaving so I listened to the radio on the way to my office and then sat in our conference room and watched news coverage the whole day.

BTW - an incredibly detailed look at 9/11 from Ari Fliescher, really interesting read coming from his twitter account yesterday: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/09/11/former-press-secretary-ari-fleischer-just-gave-a-detailed-account-of-911-on-his-twitter-account-and-its-stunning/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Wow... that is absolutely incredible. Completely brings back memories of the confusion and chaos of that day.

I was a Freshmen in High School and remember watching the 2nd plane hit as I got ready to catch the bus. My 1st period teacher didnt believe us and we had a regular class and homework (he apologized the next day and it wasnt due for a week) the 2nd tower had fallen minuets before I walked into 2nd period, my 3rd period teacher was an old Vietnam era hippie and he sat cross legged on his desk and we talked about what was going on, 4th period my history teacher told us we were watching history and everything changes today. I watched news in the library at lunch and the rest of the day classes were combined into rooms with TVs. I had football practice after school, the coaches told us we didnt have to do anything but most of us tried to have a regular practice and remember a fire fighting plane flew over and we stopped in the middle of a play.
