Here’s a good article to read if you’re curious about where things stand right now. In summation, tampering rules are being skirted because players have their agents start shopping them around to gauge interest, which is how they already have ten offers by the time they hit the portal….again, this is bulls**t, and if we’re all for getting rid of rules let’s just separate the teams from the schools, get rid of the whole 5 to play 4 eligibility limitations, let players play until their 30s and fill rosters as needed with high school talent. Let’s just pay the players what we can afford to pay them and dispense with college football as we know it in its entirety, and restructure the entire thing to become the farm system for the NFL…..I’d rather a massive blow than this death by 1,000 cuts nonsense we’re currently dealing with. Just have done with this notion of college football being anything other than a business
It’s the direction this is all going, I just wish it would hurry up and get there so we can go about settling into the new norm. Us Montana fans are lucky, as the Griz as a business would do pretty darn well in a landscape where it’s just a business without the limitations being a part of a school places on it. Hell we could unilaterally join a conference of other similar football programs without any of the constraints we currently deal with. It’s not like it will be some Griz football utopia, but it would definitely be preferable to trying to navigate this situation with the financial burden the football program currently shoulders; Griz football floats the entire athletic department, and I’d be surprised if it didn’t pay a lot of bills outside the athletic department. Imagine how well the football program could do if it wasn’t propping up a bunch of other sports and programs…..
