Josh Horners Impact

Okay here is a non-kicker acting, Stitt is no Hauck, SDSU will roll us thread.

In the last few weeks Josh Horner has been playing a more traditional tight end role. We have gone from two base formations 2-2, and 3-1 to using Horner on the end of the line. Since then our o-line (who are awful and have no DOLA, whatever the hell that is) and John Nguyen (who fumbles constantly) have been having much more success.

Do you think this is the reason, one more helmet to block? Has Coach Stitt changed his thinking? Chase Naccarato and Caleb Lyons have taken a back set. Is there a future for a more traditional TE in Coach Stitt's offense? I have envisioned Dalton Daum in that 4th receiver role, does this affect his role in the future?

We'll go back to the 4 wideout sets that we saw, I'd bet money on it. The problem is that our offensive line needs help keeping Brady upright.

Once we get the OL back to where we need them I bet we'll be seeing a lot of Daum, Justin Calhoun, and Jerry Louie Mcghee in that slot position.

Quick edit: Horner has been awesome, he had a big game against bozo.

NO, just adapted to the situation as it is, not as it would ideally be. If you look at the limited amount of School of Mines film you will see players in a TE position. If i remember correctly he talks about the big strong running back he had at that time.

Agreed :thumb:

Serious question. Who plays the opposing team's tight end on the scout team? Tight ends are typically not big, strong running backs. Often, they are among the most athletic players on the field. Just wondering if we have this guy playing on the scout team?

I wonder if Mike Ralston, Cooper Sprunk or Reggie Tilleman run there. They were all big time TE's in the past. Question probably better answered by someone closer to Griz practice. Great question!

Could you please show me where Win (sp) fumbles constantly?
Or am I a victim of wry satire?

It's actually Rye whiskey satire. Just making fun of some common themes on here. Love John Nguyen and I think our OL has been working their asses off and getting better.

Horner has been huge in the success of the running game and I think Stitt has seen how advantageous a player like that can be....I think he will continue to use a big receiver in TE type situations and not go away from it in the future.

I agree that he won't completely go away from it as it is a nice package to have. Gives the defense so much more to prepare for and really helps give some extra pass pro for the QB when you want to run 3 receiver patterns and isolate or run route combos with some of the great WR's that the Griz have.

That role belongs to Colin Bingham, who has had one hell of a scout team campaign this year.
