Just read a nice article about Jordan in the Kaimin. They have stepped up their game this year along with a nice website. I have found a lot of their articles informative and interesting. Fantastic read. I had suspected that, if anyone had left the program, after last year that he may have been the one to do so. It's clear, though, that he has probably put in the most work off season and it shows. I've had the impression that he is the most improved this year. I have especially loved him getting after rebounds as that was an issue earlier in the season for the whole team. If he keeps up this level of work and dedication he will have the potential to be a 15-20 point and 10 rebound type of player the next two years. We get a more developed post presence and it will only benefit him with better looks. Glad we have him and that he stuck with our program!
 
i've only seen the griz play twice this year, at usf, at portland state. as impressed as i was with keron deshields in portland, after will, jordan was my favorite player both games. will's last play of the first half in that game, where they tossed him a length-of-the-court pass with two seconds left, he let in bounce once before touching it, then swooped in for a layup to beat the buzzer--that was other-worldly. i think a knicks scout was at the game. wait, wasn't this about jordan? i love this kid.
 
I wrote early in the season that Gregory was showing the same kind of fire and drive that Eric Hayes had. I noticed it on the bench last year, when the Griz did something good on the floor, there was always an explosion of excitement from the bench, and Gregory was always in the middle of it. I thought at the time that, "geez, that kid is wired into basketball."

On March 7, this year, I noted after the Sac State game:

Gregory led the team with 21 points. That kid loves Basketball.

It was more than just playing a good basketball game with inherent talent, you could see that he's worked on things, and developed patterns, and yes, the "mid-range jumper." He thinks about Basketball.

After reading the Montana Kaimin article, I see why.

What a great article. Really fine writing.

i agree... i like watching the action off the ball (tv at times doesn't allow for this).... what really impressed me about seeing Gregory in person is his willingness to go rebound and mix it up in the paint. He won't back down from anyone. Yeah, he's a little arrogant on the court (have no idea what he is like off of it) but that isn't a bad thing at all.... coming into this season it was a no brainer to see this team would dominate this conference... i had some concerns going forward into 13/14 that there might be a big drop with Cherry & Ward graduating. Those concerns have lessened a lot with the emergence of Gregory, Coleman, Deshields, Weisner & even Henderson.... Go Griz!!
 
Yeah, what I was impressed with was the thought this kid is putting not just into basketball, but life. This kid is going to be a success at whatever he ends up doing.
 
I think the Kaimin has just moved ahead of the Missoulian on my must read when it comes Griz basketball.
Apparently RE also whiffed on any request to shut down the student paper for a year...
 
...got hooked by the Kaimin into a terrific account of the disappearance of UM student and Englewood CO resident Kaitlin Kenney during a Colorado River float. Far better job than the Denver Post's effort and as far as comparing with the Missoulian, well... Nicely done Kaimin, and the graphic layout of the online version is superior...makes a former J-schooler proud... :thumb:

That was a well written article! Tip, has there been recent turn-over in the department in the last couple years? The quality of the articles and the general content seem to have really improved.
 
The Montana Kaimin is independent of the J-School although obviously there is a symbiotic relationship. It is owned by ASUM, and each year has a new editor. who in turn appoints staff.

Beginning Reporting class in the J-School used to get credit for reporting for the Kaimin, I believe that ended some time ago, however.

The Kaimin is a great place to learn "newspapering."

Gregory is rapidly becoming one of my favorite guys to watch. Great shooter and a feisty defender. He's got quite the motor to get after the ball.

Leadership is in good hands the next few years. Gregory and Deshields are already showing it Next year, this will be Kareem's, Gregory's, and Deshields team.
 
This team is so deep with scoring guards it's dumb. Next year we still have Kareem, Deshields, Gregory and then we add Mario Dunn and Riley Bradshaw. Oh, and don't forget about Henderson and Weisner
