He's in line for a PAC12 HC job. He wouldn't be here long and then gone. I'll take BH.

This, they need someone who is a quality coach and will stay for a long time. I think Hauck gives em the best chance at that.

Why do we need somebody who will stay for a long time?
The Griz had 4 different coaches in 7 years and the program is in the shape it is in because of that IMO. AND if the coach stays a long time that means the Griz are doing well! :thumb:

We're in the position we are bc of a "scandal" and two consecutive poor to average hires. Make the right hire and it doesn't matter. Lifers get complacent. I want a coach who wants to coach at the highest level, and buddy, we ain't it.

I can't believe this is even a question. If anyone would rather have BH instead of Smith, they've clearly never played the game.

Let's see a candidate with 12 years head coaching experience at both DI levels, 7 enormously successful at this institution, a Montana native with relationships with coaches across the state, vs. a non-candidate who is a young successful offensive coordinator with zero head coaching experience. Who couldn't wait to get out of Montana after a year here. I can't believe this is even a question.

Agreed. Plus, my impression was that Pflu ran the offense. Think Smith was at UM for 2 years. Don't recall if he was OC both years.

Everett, proving once again his lack of understanding of the game.

Right. Because everyone in the country thinks Hauck is a better coach than Smith.

Good god. Some of you amaze me. You'd take Hauck over Belichick

It's amusing how so many Griz fans' perception of Hauck has changed over the years. I don't remember those years quite as rosey as most others.

I'm with you. I'm not entirely sure Hauck is the right guy for the job. I just know whoever it is will have to have a much better record than we've seen lately for fans to be sold on his game. I'm excited no matter who gets the job.

Give me some of this:

2003 Montana....9–4...5–2...T–1st...L Div. I-AA first round
2004 Montana...12–3...6–1...T–1st...L Div. I-AA championship
2005 Montana....8–4...5–2...T–1st....L Div. I-AA first round
2006 Montana...12–2...8–0...1st......L Div. I (FCS) semifinal
2007 Montana...11–1...8–0...1st......L Div. I (FCS) first round
2008 Montana...14–2...7–1...T–1st...L Div. I (FCS) championship
2009 Montana,,,14–1...8–0...1st..,,,,L Div. I (FCS) championship

All those Ls.

We need someone with a proven track record as a winning head coach at this point. UM and Kent can I’ll afford a bad hiring decision at this point. That person is Hauck.
Smith and the others have great assistants and coordinators records. But that does not mean they will be a quality head coach. To me Kent takes a big risk hiring other than Hauck. So I really think at this stage having Hauck is the best option.
Let’s let Hauck groom Selle to become the next Griz coach when Hauck leaves or hangs up the clip board.

Agreed, but then again only 9 schools (7 that are still in FCS) have finished with a W since our last one.

You cannot be serious that you really think Hauck is a better candidate than Jonathan Smith.

What is Jonathan Smith's HC record and interest in anything Montana? BH is a candidate; Smith is not.

Smith has an interview. Why would he have one, if he is not a candidate?

Kem, Hauck is your first choice it seems and I think the job is likely already his. Lets say, however, Hauck wasnt interested or an option for the job. Who, of those considered to be current candidates, would be your choice?

Am i the only who seems to remember that not many were upset whrn Smith left here the last time?

I think the majority of people didn’t see him as instrumental to Pflu’s offense, rightly or wrongly.

Totally. Because I know the administration isn't going to tolerate 7-4 seasons anymore. It's freaking great that the leadership has finally said "no thanks" to mediocrity. No excuses for the new guy whatsoever. I couldn't be more excited for this.
