JJ

I think this week we will see a mobile JJ. He is much more effective on the move than standing in the pocket...OK, maybe I am hoping for this more than what is really going to happen, after all, our coaching staff makes the decisions.

From an article after the Wyo. game. Of course, what would the coach know? Obviously, nothing compared to the yahoos on egriz.

“I thought Jordy played very well,” Delaney said."

"Bohl was impressed with Johnson’s performance."

Did the coach think JJ had a concussion in the WY game? It kind of sounds like he did but coach must have been paying attention to how well he was playing and not the condition of his head.

I agree with many.....he's not played that well in his 2 games this year. Hope that changes this week!

The question in the original post was, is there a QB coach helping JJ with fundamentals.

My thought is that maybe JJ misses Pflu and the QB expertise that he brought. I don't know who on the current staff has the kind of QB experience that Pflu had. I am sure Gragg doesn't but I don't know about the other co-coordinator.

Kfense works with the QBs I believe.

Fargo press on JJ:

"Meanwhile, Johnson has gone about his business – with his value not as much about statistics as it is about winning."

“He’s a guy who’s won so many games for us and makes great decisions,” said Montana head coach Mick Delaney. “He’s the leader of our football team.”

“Their quarterback,” University of South Dakota head coach Joe Glenn said of Montana’s strength. “The guy has been in playoff games every year he’s started there, and he doesn’t make a lot of mistakes. He really breathes confidence into their offense. He knows where to go with the football and they’ve got some talent.”

But what jumps out was his touchdown-to-interception ratio of 32 TDs to just five picks.

“He has just unbelievable control of the game,” said NDSU head coach Chris Klieman. “He knows what he wants to do with the football. He’s a really sharp kid.”

"That sharpness stood out on film to NDSU free safety Christian Dudzik, who said it’s easy to tell Johnson has years of experience behind him because he can read defenses so well."

“We’re not going to confuse this guy,” Klieman said. “We can show him some different looks but he’s had so many snaps it’s tough to confuse him. He’s a great quarterback. When he goes, they go.”

Clearly our HC doesn't and don't lose track how much we pay our assistants. Pflu brought a lot to the table on the O side, not unlike Baldwin at EWU. His departure left a hole.

If you see a quarterback that's a bit off and your wondering why, it's always good to start with the amount of time he has to throw. He needs about two seconds. If he's being hurried in under two, then his line isn't getting the job done. If he's consistently going on three seconds before he attempts to throw and he has receivers open, that's on him.

There have been several plays this season when the defense was breathing down Johnson's neck less than two seconds after the snap. There have also been plays when Johnson seemed to not see open receivers who were on the opposite side of the field from where his protection was soft.
A half second more protection is a considerable amount of time for a quarterback. I think Johnson gets that half second as the season continues and then he won't be as "off" as egrizzers think.

The other thing to consider is how many times he's been asked to throw the ball so far this year. I think he attempted 45 passes in Laramie. Who was off? That's a lot of passes for a QB in a pro-style offense, or should I say a lot of passes for a QB in the Griz pro-style offense. And he had a concussion. And that two-second window was absent a lot.

While JJ hasn't been terrific so far this year, I'm expecting BIG things from him this Saturday. He's a senior and I'm sure he would consider this a "legacy" game. Big games bring out the best in real performers or true competitors. I'm quite sure he's sick and tired of hearing about the Bison. Also, he will not have the opportunity of a "revenge" game at home next year. His passes will be much crisper and he will finally be on cue with Ellis. Why? Because he has to. FTC... he's beaten them twice at their house...been there and done that. This will be a nat'l following match and he can garner the respect he deserves. I'm also sure the 25 pt. dog line has him and the rest of our squad fuming. Enough said... let's just hope the coaching staff can come up with a solid game plan... :egriz:

Personally I think losing our 2 starting tackles wears heavily on JJ. Constantly thinking about a freight train whacking you has to affect play. Not to mention the ill affects of getting a concussion. He's a great quarterback with a not so great offensive line. My advice.....keep the defense off him. I don't care if you have to hold, kick, or tackle but don't let Jordy get smacked. I'll be glad when this game is over and JJ is upright.

I think Ellis has a lot of recovering to do to get "on cue" with JJ. Fact is, EH has not been beating single coverage in the long routes and JJ is not one to force the ball into int situations. We don't seem to have the electric speed to be effective in the long routes. You have to run them to keep the secondary loose, but D coordinators have little fear our deep threat.

Agreed. Plus JJ has been dealing with all new receivers, except for Jones. Wolcott is out for season. Chase N. has been out. Saylor moved to tight end. A senior starter graduated last year. Henderson didn't practice until the last week of preseason and hasn't played all that much, and didn't participate in summer player run practices. He's apparently coming along and getting more practice time, so maybe he's almost "back". And JJ didn't practice for the week after Wyo.

Teams know UM has an inexperienced o-line, and I'm sure are scheming to take advantage of that. JJ must be making good decisions, as he hasn't throw an interception. He's been sacked only once, but, as pointed out, rushed and hit too much.

And, yes, JJ needs to have a great game, and this would be a good time to have his first great game of the season.

I am gonna just leave this right here.... :| :|

For the second time in less than two weeks, a starting NCAA football quarterback has announced he’s stepping away from the game citing concerns over multiple concussions.

University of Texas quarterback David Ash, who suffered a concussion during the second week of the 2013 season, and two weeks later left a game with what was only described as a head injury, announced his decision Wednesday after suffering lingering symptoms over the last year.

The fourth-year quarterback returned to the field this season leading the Longhorns to a victory over North Texas, but experienced headaches and dizziness which kept him from playing in the team’s next two games.

Longhorns coach Charlie Strong said on Wednesday that he told Ash “there was no way we were going to let you back on that field.”

“His heath is our major concern,” Strong said.

Ash’s decision follows that of University of Connecticut quarterback Casey Cochran, a redshirt sophomore who was injured in the first game of the season after winning the starting job.

For whatever reason JJ did not look like his usual accurate self against South Dakota. Shay Smithwick-Hann looked like a more accurate thrower, al beit against a much lesser opponent. But it's early and hopefully he can get back to consistent play and avoid anymore head injuries.
