Live by the sword, die by the sword. Obama's justice department turns on one the most liberal institutions out there in 'liberal/progressive' land.

How deliciously ironic. Karma can be a bitch.
I bet you blame Obama for everything huh? I glad he's the only president we've ever had and we don't have a separate legislative branch that passes laws... you should probably try to rub those 2 brains cells you have left together and come up with a coherent thought.

I bet you are a knee jerk liberal, and if I have only two brain cells left, that leave me with 100% more than you. I specifically was pointing out an issue of a political agenda within the Obama Justice department. The department of justice is a cabinet post for the top legal authority of ALL the people, not the president's personal political lawyer and spin doctor, as we learned back in the days of Watergate and one John Mitchell.

This story is about a $225,00 settlement from a defamation lawsuit that was spawned by political hysteria. And to think how my history professors back in the last century never wasted a second to demagogue the plight of Sacco & Vanzetti, or any other innocent people railroaded into kangaroo courtroom situation at the hands of mob hysteria) The Duke Lacrosse players, the Rolling Stone article, the so-called UVA "rape" case, Krakauer prostituting it all for financial gain (hey I thought hippies hated 'capitalists'). As I said, "how deliciously ironic".

Montanamike, we probably crossed paths. I was at 420 Hartman (the yellow house) from 90-93 in first Apt. 2 on the right and then #3 up above--I moved from #2 when my girl friend dumped me in '91 upon her graduation, since she practically lived with me, I was pretty depressed and greatly missed her female companionship when she left, or to quote Shakespeare, I missed "making the beast with two backs !!!"

My landlord was a great old Montanan and American: WWII vet that I am sure is now gone--God bless him.

And my neighbor was a great guy that had been an Army paratrooper and dog handler in Vietnam that at times had really bad PTSD from 'Nam--he too was ( and hopefully is still alive) a great Montanan and American. He kidded me about being a Jarhead (Marine) and I him about being a "doggie," Army soldier. He had a huge German Shepherd, "Gunther" that was extremely well trained.

If you're going to a home game this fall, I'll buy you a beer at The MO Club--PM me, if you want.

We were next door neighbors... Ours was the gray house... 424 Hartman. I remember the owner of the yellow place well as we always got along with him very well. Will was the name of the guy with the German Shepherd. I remember him showing me a few times how well he was trained. Simply amazing what he did with him. My memory is there was a law student living there also. The other guys in our house played music which I imagine you recall even with the "sound proofing" we did in the garage.

Will touch base if I get over that way for a game. I haven't been to a football game since 93 or 94 I think.

I would love to have been the fly on the wall to watch RE apologize in person to the Johnson family. Talk about a made for youtube moment.

Yep, Montanamike, we were neighbors and I am sure that we met--there were 2-3 law students, all females, at 424 from like 1990-91, maybe '92, and they would invite the poor undergrad over and feed me, give me copious amounts of booze, and try to take advantage of me--I wish.

I will try to track down Will--he's gotta be in at least his mid 60's now, and find out what happened to Jon, my landlord. Jon was having heart problems in the early 90's when he was in his late 60's, early 70's, so I am afraid he has probably passed on.

I will PM you if I find out anything on them, and if all else fails, hopefully we will be in Seattle for the Griz-Husky game in 2017, the Griz opening game if I remember the schedule correctly. That's way out, but I thought I would mention it since you live in Washington.

Take care and God Bless !!!

Typical headline news in this morning's missoulian news paper written by the heir to florio, keila szpaller states in large letters LAWER FOR MONTANA: UM DISAGREES.

For the typical UM sports fans we look at Engstrom's fault in losing 2,000 students because of his worse than poor handling of JJ's rape issue. Costing our U hundreds of thousands etc. We look at an entire fiasco and are amazed that the BOR and Royce are still in charge.

I must try to get over this entire flub and hope that Haslam will keep up with the excellent job of getting some damn good coaches for all the programs and until we end up with new guidence from a new president I won't give the University another extra dime...

I know the above has been mentioned by others far more intelligent but I had to have one more rant and get it off my mind.

Good luck to you in the future Jordan Johnson!

The headline, notably, distorts the record. UM had "no comment." The Risk Management office, which had nothing to do with the case, is the one making this yet again a public issue.

That is, unfortunately, typical. The "State" threw five attorneys and an unlimited budget at JJ. The attorney is not only promoting sour grapes, he is attempting the odd public relations gesture, upon which the whole PC movement was generated, to argue that UM actually was "Rape Nation" and that the victim is still, officially, a "victim." If this guy does not get, at a minimum, a stern letter of reprimand, the system is indeed broken.

His claims are unethical and inappropriate.

From comments by a University of Tennessee law professor today:
THESE SETTLEMENTS DESERVE ANOTHER ZERO OR TWO: University of Montana settles with football player accused of rape.
One of the most high-profile campus rape accusations in recent years has come to a close.

Jordan Johnson, the former starting quarterback for the University of Montana, has reached a settlement with the University of Montana for $245,000 to drop his claims against the university. Johnson had threatened to sue the school following what he called an “unfair and biased” investigation by the school.

Johnson had been a star quarterback for the university. Handsome and well-spoken, he seemed to have the world on his plate. He hoped to join the NFL. But just as his star was rising, he was accused of rape during a time when the nation — and especially the University of Montana — were under heavy scrutiny for allegedly mishandling accusations of campus sexual assault and rape.

This led to Johnson being investigated by the school and recommended for expulsion. He was also charged with rape in criminal court, but a jury acquitted him.
Kangaroo courts should be expensive, for the kangaroos.

In sum, JJ was screwed and got some redemption and is moving onward and upward. Others were screwed too without any redemption. The screwer overs have had little repercussions. All the griz posters in this thread appear to truly love UM, want it to succeed, and want to see those who really screwed up--leave, move on, and screw off.

Yes. And what does one do with Gwen/Get Griz?
She does have balls. Damn dark room and a visit about JJ. What then?
2 drunk 2 know?

That's pretty damn cool! About two years before I arrived on scene, as I was just returning from a deployment to Egypt about the time you were moving on--with UM in my sights...I'm currently sitting at my desk (voluntarily, since it's Sat :D ) maybe 3-400 yards from Kiwanis Park as the crow flies...

But your descriptions of that area and time frame just brought back a lot of memories. Where did 20-odd years go so quickly?? Damn.

There are way too many crooks and liars in politics these days. It is damn near impossible to get enough honest politicians in office to make a positive impact for US citizens. I wonder what our forefathers are thinking these days? They have to be ashamed, upset, frustrated, and disappointed in our current political model we live by these days. I better leave it at that. By the way, I am not a democrat or republican. Just a believer that the system is broken.
I don't want to get too much into politics, but this statement coming exactly 215 years to the day that the US House of Representatives, on their 36th try, voted Jefferson and Burr into office is too much irony to pass up. You do remember Aaron Burr, right? As VP he presided over the first ever impeachment trial of a Supreme Court Justice Chase because he let his political feelings show through his court rulings? while VP he shot and killed former VP Alexander Hamilton in a duel borne out of political rivalry? Was later charged with treason? I think our forefathers would be proud that we are able to have peaceful elections and changes of government. As far as the honest of politicians these days vs anytime int eh past, you might want to research Montana's own Senator W Clark. the more things change the more they have stayed the same.
I have to be honest, I kind of wish some of the politicians would have duels. It would set the pecking order a little better and keep people from running their mouth so much. Probably would help people work together a lot better...
If you could see firsthand what is happening down here, in the Midlands of South Carolina, you might be ducking for cover. This election is totally out of control..disgusting. I have over 20 robocalls on a landline just today.
What's a "landline"?

When was the last time a President of a Montana University was removed from office? Has it ever happened?

re: Duniway: Established "Departments of Biology, Botany and Forestry, Fine Arts, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electrical Engineering."

I read that too. He looks like someone just told him he was dismissed.

This is a common expression from a heavy laudanum user. I believe it is caused by opiate induced constipation. I'll never forget the night Duniway went on that bender and smashed up the Union Club after he found out Wilma "Gams" Fitzpatrick was twerking while dancing with a couple of the FSPBs.

From Bobcatnation...

CommonCat: "To the casual observer the message that is conveyed.... "It pays to rape.""

GRIZ1STCATS2ND: "Please elaborate."

TomCat88 (Tom Stuber?) : "Why would you want, or need, him to elaborate?"

I thought there were some idiots on eGriz, but wow, I think I underestimated the stupidity of that fanbase.
They went on to "explain" themselves, but damn, grown men need to have a little bit of respect and not let little brother syndrome from the rivalry overpower rational thought.

No "casual observer" sees it this way, and it's ridiculous to even put this idea out there.

Not every Cat fan. I knew JJ was getting shafted and said as much on here. The kid should of got more then just his folks lawyer fees back from the state. There should of been one more zero on that pay out.

Ah, the Union Club. That was certainly one of those nights during which you wonder how a gentleman keeps it together from mid-Tuesday through about 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The very fact that he reportedly thought he had a chance with Gams was semi-laughable. Sure, she might have been rumored to have given him an Old Fashioned at the Ravalli turnout up the 93 like five years prior after a half bottle of hooch, but that wasn't love to Gams. That was sport. She sure could twerk something fierce, however. Ol' D was barking up the wrong dogwood by challenging the FSPBs.

Was it "Gams" or "Gums?" I think we need to set the record straight, once and for all.

Remember, mouthguards may be a relatively new dental appliance, but good old bruxism...well that's been around forever. Just sayin.

Officially "Gams." She might have been colloquially called, "Gums" for a few years based on aptitude alone, but that was not her official nickname. If you had seen those stems, you would know why. For about a seven-year stretch, she was something else. Legs. For. Days. Remember, however, this is someone's somewhat-fictional great aunt we're talking about.

So very true! I do believe you may have the location of their date incorrect. I believe it actually was the 2nd Annual Butter Days in Stevensville. Following the embarrassing incident with "Gams" and Duniway it was from then after known as the Stevensville Creamery Picnic.
