Jimmy Wilson faces off against Wes Welker Sunday

The Miami Dolphin's Jimmy Wilson has the unenviable task of covering one of the NFL's most elusive and best route runners Sunday when the Dolphins host the New England Patriots. Wilson is the Dolphins' nickel corner back and will cover the slot receiver, which the vast majority of the time in the Pats offense is Welker. How Jimmy performs on Sunday will be closely observed by Dolphins' coaches as they continue their evaluation of the young corner from Montana. WIlson is used not only as a nickel corner, but also as a safety in the Dolphins defense. He often blitzes the quarterback from his corner spot and has also caused havoc as a special teams demon. As a Griz alumni and a Fins fan I'm proud of Jimmy and hope he is up to the task Sunday. It will likely be his most important and challenging test so far in the NFL. Good luck Jimmy!

Wilson in on most of first defensive series. Covered TE Hernandez successfully in the back of the end zone.

Carpenter had a tough (wind) 44 or so yard FG. Wilson playing well(and in on most plays on defense), except for one play. Tied for 2nd leading tackler, so far, with 4. Pass coverage seems good or fine. Nice play downing a punt on the 2 or 3. Bad roughing kicker on about the 15 yard line. Had defended and tackled Welker a number of times.

Has had plenty of good plays but also trouble getting off blocks in the screen game. Inches from a punt block and got a 15 yd roughing penalty that gave NE life on a TD drive. Went all out and sometimes you just don't quite get the block. Sometimes that is worth the risk for a punt block which would have been huge for Miami at that point.

I think he's been playing the screens well. Taking on a bigger blocker and forcing the play in the direction he should.

Welker got the best of our boy Jimmy on Sunday. But Jimmy is holding down his spot and has become an important part of an NFL defense. He'll get better as he continues to gain experience.

Perhaps true, but Welker got most of his receptions against other Miami defenders, not Wilson. Welker is a terrific player.
