Jimmy Rogers to Wazzu

SDSU finds themselves in a very interesting spot now. Matt Zimmer is reporting that Rogers plans to take the entire coaching staff with him, and they could see upwards of 2 dozen portal entries. Which if true means SDSU has no internal options for the job. I saw one person on Twitter suggest that Stig come back, and that might not be a bad option in the short term if he’s willing to come out of retirement, but this is a huge blow for the Jacks.

The good news for SDSU is their athletic department as a whole is very strong, and there will lots of attractive suitors for the job. But you can’t help but feel if the program gets raided that that knocks SDSU out of the title picture in the short term.

Interested to see how it all plays out.

Vigen? Ha.

I fear you are correct and then waters the FCS down further. College football is a whole different animal right now. Not a graceful one either. Will be interesting to watch the next few years and how things evolve. Hope WSU is paying him well. Not a really attractive job.
He'll be paid well into the millions per year. I wouldn't feel to sorry for him. WSU doesn't have that high of expectations and Pullman is a great place to live, especially compared to Brookings.

So you have talked with these people? My take is if they really wanted him, waiting a week right now wasn't a deal breaker.
That may have played a part in it, but it sounds like the main chatter is that Vigen wanted more money. I'm sure some details will come out at some point, though.

I find it crazy they wouldn’t announce his hiring yet let him coach the championship. Portal closes so more can’t leave and he would still have plenty of time to offer portal guys and take the best of MSU with him. He might have really screwed up not taking the offer. Life changing money and no guarantees a better gig comes along. This year likely too late for another and if for some reason he struggles without Tommy next year his stock plummets.

This I definitely agree with. There is no guarantee that he gets a better gig next year
He could but my guess is that is the best he could hope for as far as a stepping stone. He's not going to get a P4 HC gig right straight from the BSC.
