Interesting point, and worth a thought. Having done both (in ancient history), I can tell you the skill set is just slightly different, at least on a lot of balls. A KO, off the tee, can have a peculiar motion/spin (end over end, often) that's quite different from most punts. Except for "coffin corner" punt attempts (almost a lost art), the punter tries for a good spiral so it cuts through the air and give him good distance and hang time. If you get used to one, the other takes an adjustment. Admittedly, I never received punts from soccer/rugby-style kickers, so I have no idea what that's like.

The other aspect is the kick vs punt coverage formations ... which are quite different. As the receivers get more practice in adjusting to the differences, we may see more rotation among them -- unless someone starts to really stand out at one or another, or both.

Obviously, the SF guy has mastered both. Mariani had the knack ... but the NFL no longer values that skill (and has rules to make it even less valued) so you don't see teams practicing it much.

I loved another pass play to the left flat. He juked a couple defenders and tried to go back toward the sideline, just to barely step out. He took the ball to the house, too bad he did step up. He does not need much room to make magic happen. Hard to believe we get to see defenders look silly for a long time now. I hope he can stay healthy his whole time here. The afterburners he turned on to head to the endzone were next level.

I'm going to make a huge prediction here...one that may rock all of Egriz.....JLM is best in space!

Vann sure in the hell was fun to watch as well. Too bad, he battled injuries as often as he did. The Nguyens have made plenty of defenders look silly as well. The difference is, they don't have the break away speed of Vann or JLM. I hope JLM learns with experience to explode through a small opening like Reynolds, Mariani, and Heidelberger did. JLM will be good for a few jaw dropping moves each game. :thumb:

On an XFL site he was listed as 6'1". Maybe he grew after college? Point is of course he was no "smurf".
