Jerome souers

Jerome made the announcement with the AD at a press conference earlier today no word if its health related, I hope not.

I'm guessing Bobby Hauck is the first call they make.

Actually would make some sense. His son plays there. He used to be an assistant back there. He has head coaching experience with a proven track record at FCS. He will get a high recommendation from Souers if they did ask. He has done well as an assistant at San Diego State. He has publicly said he wants to be a head coach again.

Not Outlandish but I'm sure there would be some questions from their administration about how it went at UNLV and how he helped with some of Montana's problems after he left.

Former Griz backer and their current DC Andy Thompson will probably also get a hard look by them.

I imagine it will be more likely that he is looking for a new job at the end of the season as well.

I dont know if Hauck will be a candidate but I think it would interesting to see what he could do with that program and certainly would add a little extra energy to the week surrounding a game against NAU. He is from Montana so I wish him the best. He wasnt the best with public relations here but I dont recall what he did that he could control that has some worried that he will cause a university to incur sanctions. I know some were upset he didnt win a NC.

Andy Thompson will be STRONGLY considered, no matter who else applies, including if BH does. I would also expect TG to apply for that job.

The conspiracy theorist in me says Bobby's son had some inside info and this is why he chose NAU over Montana. Maybe Bobby's already been in contact with them.

Robby was offered walk-on at UM vs. a scholarship at NAU. I don't think it's anymore complicated than that beyond a personal relationship between Bobby and Jerome.

You do know that conspiracy theorists don't need facts, don't you?

Hire him to coach the Montana defense.

Or at least Andy Thompson.
I heard somewhere that he was one of the finalists before Stitt was hired...is that true?
That's the first I've heard, but who knows?
Ya it sounded odd but it was from someone who would've heard it from Thompson.

I'm puzzled by the timing of this announcement. I could announcing in August that the 2017 would be coach Souers last, he'd get a nice long fade out that way; but two games into the season? Seems like a major mid-season distraction.

The way I see it, BH will be the head coach @ SDSU when the current head coach retires. I don't think he wants to take a step backward to coach in the Big Sky again.
If Stitt has a bad year, he'll be out. Andy Thompson would be a contender for Stitt's job, but many other coaches would be considered.
Souers would probably love to come back to Montana, preferably as the head coach, but would probably take the DC position if offered, but who knows if we'd hire him.

Actually after 20 years of waiting for Souers to close the deal at NAU, Bobby might be a good choice,,, always close (and sometimes REALLY close) but never quite getting the job done. He should fit right in.
