Jeff Choate new MSU Head Coach

Bigsky33, you do know you're talking about MSU v. UM in a football recruiting "battle," right?
Don't try and reason with him. He heard a coach say, "THE MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY" today. Just wait for the swelling to go down and he'll regain his senses.

I kind of feel sorry for the new coach in bozeman. He inherits a fan base that believes that it is entitled to a top 10 finish every year. This fantasy was what kept coach ron ash at bozo so long, he sold it endlessly. When it became clearly obvious the kats were in no way to deliver this load of s**t, the AD kicked bozeman state's winningest coach down the road. The new guy will curse coach ron every day.

BigSky33 you lost us all at your guarantee that big play VA was not going to Oregon and heading back to EWU. You have ZERO credibility here with your idiotic statements like that. So I'll take whatever you say as exact opposite of what actually takes place.
,

That's okay with me, I got that info direct from coaches attending the Big Sky Conference meetings in Utah just beore the start of the season. It was when VA was taking that math class. So be it. I guess you have never been wrong on something. I also go into footballscoop.com a lot and they are wrong a lot. Not uncommon.

The funny thing is they believe it when it hasn't happened in a generation or more. But this hire, THIS hire, is different. Jim Choate will have them back in the saddle in no time.

Wait. THE coach Josh Choat called it "THE Montana state university"???

Holy shit!! That is HILARIOUS!!!!!
His plane was delayed last night at SeaTac and he got the idea after watching a 30-for-30 about the 1980's Miami Hurricanes.

Hey, they have the M on their helmets. There are reportedly people in Warm Springs who actually think MSU is the flagship institution.

You are on here trying to convince yourself that you hired a good coach and seemingly hoping for reassurance from Griz fans, which is the last place a sane person would go when you root for the Cats. Don't forget, Choate was MSUs third choice and also applied at the UofM last year and got, well, nowhere. Ouch. Oh but be excited, he hired his buddy who coaches O line at NAIA Rocky Mountain and likes to drink and party with his players. All great things!

Yes it is different here. MSU is a University with a football team versus UM which is a football team with a community college.

MSU's is really more of a FB charity, but live your dream. MSU will continue to be mediocre in perpetuity. It's just part of the culture there. That much is undeniable.

Bigsky33, you'll get no argument from me that Montana State University is an outstanding school. However, as it relates to academics and the current MSU roster, it's no different than any other program, including UM. Here's a little breakdown for you:

Exactly SEVEN players of a 99-man roster at MSU are majoring in engineering. And two of those are majoring in civil engineering, which is a degree that can also be obtained at Montana State University-Northern, Great Falls and MSU-Billings. On the other side, 59 players, including 17 upper classmen are majoring in University Studies, in other words they are so dedicated to academics, they haven't picked an actual major. There are also 19 players on MSU's roster majoring in business, sociology or education, all degrees that can also be obtained at UM.

So, while I have no argument that Montana State is an incredible educational opportunity, while UM has slid back some in recent years, as it relates to football, it still looks like the status quo to me. And in fact, there are currently 16 players in state and out, that I could find, that have scholarship offers from both MSU and UM, which means Montana State currently wants the exact same player as UM does more times than not.

I'm more excited about Choate than I was Ash, FWIW. Although the circumstances are vastly different. Ash was hired in the spring because of Kramer's firing, and we were fresh off our first playoff victory in 22 years or whatever it was.

Choate is taking over a program in much better shape overall than when Ash took over, however the team isn't as good as it was when Ash took over.

I was pretty hesitant with Ash, a guy who had a ton of HC experience but 18 or whatever years at a non-scholly FCS school didn't exactly thrill me, or a lot of BN.

I didn't think he deserved to get fired, I thought he would get one more year to get it together. That defense was so broken it would've taken a miracle to fix it in one year, it start breaking in 2013, broke completely last year and stayed that way most if not all year, although we did have pockets of improvement here and there.

Well, then that's likely how he developed these great recruiting "skills" we've been hearing so much about as well.

I see an NCAA Band coming real soon for lilbro.

I'm sorry BS33,

I should let little brother have his day. Your ridiculous claims about recruiting made me laugh. The ironic thing is when you do eventually beat us out of a recruit, you'll read on the recruiting thread, "We didn't want him anyway." The troubling thing for me is to figure out if the poster will be referring to the recruit or THE COACH HARRY CHOATE who didn't even make it to the interview stage when he applied for the Grizzly head coaching job. But then I guess as your third choice, you guys didn't really want him either.

Where do you get third choice?

It seems like the coaching situation is improving. Ron was never going to get that program to a semifinal. I think Fields might have gotten lucky with the Jon Choate hire. I do think it's a bit disingenuous for Choade to try to suggest to the boosters that he is going to win the Montana recruiting battle; that's just not realistic. It's like being introduced as the coach at Bowling Green and saying that you are going to win the NC. I think you are correct. It's an above average program trying to find itself in the shadow of its big bro.

I always have fun here!

Jon Choade, now that's funny right there, I don't care who you are - Ronny Hack, Robyn Pflunkgrade, or Blade Allen Stitt-on-a-stick.

We are catching up on facilities. Good for you guys that you found your Sugar Denny. But having a Sugar Daddy doesn't make you a big brother any more than walking into a garage makes you a car.

For F*cks sake. I don't get the Cat's "poor us, we don't have a Sugar Daddy" routine. You have Tim Barnard living right in your lawn. And you can't get him to donate enough? I'm curious, why do you think he gives dump trucks of money to Gonzaga, provides their jet transportation, etc. You have all the money down in Big Sky. You have RightNow Technologies headquartered in Bozeman, Montana. Lord knows the Bozeman economy is WAY better than Missoula's, thanks to our ass-backwards local government. UM can raise the money, but MSU can't? Won't? Doesn't want to?

You have the donors available, they apparently don't feel strongly enough about MSU athletics to pony up that kind of money. And don't forget that the Washingtons give way more to areas of UM other than athletics.

Maybe we should apologize ???

For A$$F@cks sake, maybe you should apologize to Denny and all the other good people who have supported a Griz football program that grew its' own hubris higher than the Burj Khalifa! dem britches don't fit

Not feeling sorry for us, never have -- we are taking care of business now. We will 'do what it takes' - we do have donors, and more lined up.

Not knocking the Washingtons, they've done great things. No need to apologize for taking his money, just not fond of the recipients of their generosity flaunting it "neener neener neeeeeeener, you're my little bro"

and RightNow is not headquartered in Bozeman anymore, it's San Francisco. And unfortunately Larry Ellison could give a stit about Montana or Montana State

Our donors buy things like state-of-the-art engineering and business buildings.

We have shiny buildings too...

Business, journalism, education, Native American studies, and oh yeah, more buildings across the river coming up!
