Why is he still in Ogden? He is a god. He has done the unthinkable. I don't think any WSU fan knows the answer. We know its not salary.

Weber State big sky titles:
1965
1968
2008 - McBride
2017 - Hill
2018 - Hill
2019 - Hill
2020 - Hill

Hill record:
2014: 2-10
2015: 6-5
2016: 7-5
2017: 11-3
2018: 10-3
2019: 11-4
2020: 5-1
2021: 6-5
2022: 5-0 (3rd 5-0 start in WSU history; 1968 6-0, 1998 5-0)

2017 (quarter) & 2019 (semi) he was knocked out of the playoffs by JMU. I think everyone is glad they are moved up.

The above is expected by a griz coach, but in ogden its unthinkable away from the basketball court.

Why egriz? Weber board is obviously dead n boring.

Honestly, if he had a better offense to go with that defense I bet he’d have been gone already. Maybe with the new offensive coordinator he will get the team over the hump offensively. Someone in the G5 will come calling eventually, for both him and Troy Taylor. That’s the nature of the beast at this level. As soon as you have some success the coach is almost as good as gone

Don Read 85-36 (0.702)
Mick Dennehy 39-12 (0.765)
Joe Glenn 39-6 (0.867)
Bobby Hauck 113-29 (0.796)
Robin Pflugrad 13-7 (0.650)
Mick Delaney 24-14 (0.631)
Bob Stitt 21-14 (0.600)

Jay Hill 63-36 (0.636)

I think we expect a little bit more than what you pointed out as above.

However, there is no doubt his teams play hard and they are physical. He’s definitely done a good job compared to previous eras of weebs football given the lack of support for the program and the over-saturated D1 football market around Salt Lake City

The main thing he is getting at is conference titles. No one cares that Mick Delaney and Bob Stitt won 60% of their games. Zero Championships. Jay has 4

And he hasn’t just done a good job considering the factors you stated. Weber State has been THE premier program in the Big Sky the last 10 years

The premier program in the BSC since 2019 has been SacSt and it's not even close.

It could easily be argued that WSU and MSU could be substituted in to that mix as well. All three teams will have the advantage over us in the next five weeks and MSU/Sac State’s schedule with the fact they don’t play each other will likely lead to one of them being conference champ. UM/WSU both have tough ends to the season with ours being most difficult. At least it will be great football and a tremendous challenge to identify how good we really are.

But yes, Jay Hill has been a solid coach for the school and for the conference bringing the competition up.

The main thing I am getting as is his record falls into a similar category as two coaches that were fired and one who was almost out to pasture when he was brought into stabilize a program in a tailspin. They coincided at the same time which happens to be the worst prolonged stretch we have had in the last 35 years.

And I wouldn’t call them the premier program. BSC titles are nice but I think EWU had a lot more playoff success in the last decade and MSU was the only other team in that stretch that made an appearance in a national championship game. Even in the stretch you described, we had similar playoff experiences minus one semifinal appearance.

Not to mention their semifinal game appearance came after a quarterfinal win over the Griz who had FIVE turnovers and still had a shot to win that game at the end.

McBride. Gawd, what a dick. I went to one of his games, scats or Griz, and I think he lost. On the post-game radio broadcast, he whined, and whined, and whined about this or that as I drove northbound. I couldn't get out of the broadcast radius fast enough. What's that? Change channels? Duh!

I almost added that their semifinal appearance came as the result of the Sneed 5 pick game but couldn’t bring myself to do it as the thought brought up a hell of a flashback. I’m only now able to talk about that at Griz Anonymous meeting’s without going into convulsions. But hey, I only have a slight tic when we drop back to pass against a team in purple/black so things are coming along.

Since you’re making me fully drudge that up. It felt like the whole second half was a shot to win in that game. I just remember thinking how many shots is our defense going to give our offense.

that most likely was the playoff game in missoula in dec 2008. i was there. we had beat the griz in ogden then got served at wa-griz in the playoff. you guys i dont think understand how badly the entire sky want to beat the griz every yr. we (the big sky) believe we are equal to bobs in our passion for wanting to beat your griz.

overall mcbride was the type of coach players n fans loved. he was at our last home game, early 80s now.

Well, most people don't seem to want to admit it, as the concept of the "Griz hangover" has been widely mocked over the years.

Why include 2020?

Because it’s disingenuous.

Just because your team decided not to participate it doesnt make it less important to hundred or so teams who decided to participate. Whether you or other people on the board like it or not the 2020 season happened and Weber won the conference 5-0 and we have the trophy to prove it.

The game was in Ogden, otherwise, why the hell would the Griz Post-Game Show feature McBride whining? Had to be a scat game. I was damn near Malad City before the signal finally faded out. I really enjoyed his whining and suffering, though. Wouldn't have changed channels for anything. :thumb:
