I can't believe the success this kid, who grew up in my neighborhood, has had and I'm very happy for him and his success. Anyone know if Jason Petrino has any interest in becoming a Griz coach? Would Bobby hire him if an opening existed and Jason applied?

He did a good job here in Billings as HC of the Rocky Mountain College Battlin' Bears in the NAIA Frontier Conference, Minnesota--was here just long enough ( 2-3 years ) to punch his ticket 🎟 for the next bigger, better job. ( Rocky is a small, private school founded by the Methodist and Presbyterian churches, currently has about 1,000 students, and is Montana's oldest college--Rocky began in 1878 in Deer Lodge vs. 1893 for UM.)

I think that he will soon be a FCS HC, possibly in The Big Sky !!!

Pretty sure this move and article happened a year and a half ago. There’s a lot of successful coaches in that family and a lot of Montana roots. Not sure after Paul’s stent in Idaho how that would play out if the situation or opportunity ever arose.

I had an occasion to meet and work with Jason when he was at Rocky. I was amazed at how different he was relative to all the other Petrinos I've known. Like the others, he's very sharp, but unlike the others, he has real people skills. Thoughtful, considerate and an excellent conversationalist. Asked really penetrating questions to extend the conversation. Not a hint of condescension. I thought at the time he was developed beyond what was needed at Rocky, and a couple weeks later he was gone for an upward move. To say I was impressed with Jason would be an understatement.

"Thoughtful, considerate and an excellent conversationalist. Asked really penetrating questions to extend the conversation. Not a hint of condensation." That's the Jason Petrino I remember.

The Petrino cousins are polar opposite personalities. The apples didn’t fall far from the tree with Putter’s sons. All good coaches though.
