Great News. Welcome to Montana, Jared!

Help me out. The programs that offered are not what I would call stellar basketball programs. Is it early in the game and larger schools were still evaluating him?

He's a versatile 6'7" player who can handle the ball and shoot it from outside pretty well. Not the same type player as Shawn and will need to develop strength, defense and inside game for Division 1.

Not that many D1 Montana kids with all kinds of other offers. Samuelson can play and contribute at UM in my opinion.

it's possible schools laid off, knowing of his strong ties to montana.

funny how for years montana featured big home-bred white-bread kids, tough as nails. you could make quite a list, including jared's dad. krysko was typical, just plain mean. problem was, we lacked quicks. then tinks came along and--problem solved! cherry, dunn, jamar, henderson, likely edmonds--only to see the well dry up for those big tough montana kids. maybe boehning is a start, if he develops. let's hope montana produces more big d1 guys, and that we can recruit them. it will add excitement to men's bb at montana.

Citay good post. It is great to have Samuelson coming aboard. I feel Samuelson has more upside than casual fans are giving him credit for. I know DeCuire wants players who are versatile, athletic, can run the court, etc. We will soon see that when we find out who is still with the team (or who is not), who gets the minutes, etc.

I'm more concerned of Boehning sticking with the GRIZ. His scholarship was from Tinkle, not Decuire. Boehning will be given this season (likely as a Redshirt) to show if he fits into DeCuire's game plan or not. I' have not seen him play, so I hope someone can fill us in as to how agile he is for a big man? If he cannot run the court well, he will likely not stick with the GRIZ after this season. DeCuire wants bigs who will not slow down the pace. As you will see by how the personnel looks this coming season.

I challenge anyone to take a look at the videos of the kind players Decuire is offering. The fact that Samuelson met his criteria is a great sign for Samuelson. After watching the videos of the guys he has offered so far, someone convince me otherwise that I am wrong, or off base as to what Decuire is looking for in his recruits.

I'm really hoping someone familiar with Boehning can tell me the kid is a solid athlete and agile for a big. How does he compare to Martin in ability and athleticism? Right now, I am questioning his fit for GRIZ basketball. Anyone else with this concern, before we see the team live?

What's the status of Martin? I heard rumor he's gone.
I'd tell you more but according to some egrizzers, it is best to see something official. Im sure something will be confirmed officially soon.

All things considered (for me it means recalling the great Griz teams of the early 90s) .... I could not think of a better "first recruit commitment" for Travis DeCuire & his fellow coaches than Jared's recent announcement. Adding to what Citay wrote, I've no doubt that Mr. Samuelson will extend the great legacy of tough, competitive Montana athletes who know how to do battle in the paint.

But going a step farther... there's a lot of proof from this summer's AAU western tourneys that Samuelson is fully capable of playing with- and against the best in college hoops. Samuelson, as one of three Montanans on the Idaho Select basketball team (Anthony Davis Idaho Select) played a major role in his team's 28-6 summer tourney record, which included five tourney "final-four" appearances and one title game. His team went 6-1 in the recent Las Vegas tourney before its elimination in the championship round.

I don't know Jared or his family... but there's ample evidence he's highly respected by coaches and peers and will likely make immediate impact on the Griz. He'll make, I have no doubt, an ideal addition to Montana Griz basketball.

Now... if only a couple additional players from that superb Idaho select squad would soon announce the Griz as their team & school of choice...

A few weeks ago, one of the Missoula news stations did a short sports report on Griz summer basketball workouts. They showed a video of some of the players working out. I saw Kemp,Gfeller, Gregory and Breunig for sure. I am pretty sure I saw Edmonds , Dunn and Boehning too. It was a choppy and short video and obviously, some of the players who were there did not show up on the video. I know I did not see Martin.

Is Martin the 7-footer, who can not get out of his own way? If he is, then it will be no loss to the program and free-up a scholarship to get a quality big to replace him. I am sure Martin is a nice kid, but he has no talent for the game of BB.

Screw the official. The official is for newspapers. This is a fan forum where speculation and rumors reign supreme! Don't let some idiots get you down man! I, and I'm sure a lot of others, am a big fan of your posts.
