Jamar vrs. Reader

Well actually was Kareem Jamar's Westchester high school team versus Billy Reader's Lake Oswego high school team but that was too large to fit in the header. The following is a portion of an odds and ends post I just did on my Blog, but i thought it would be of interest here so I thought I would share.

On December 28th Grizzly signee Billy Reader and his Lake Oswego high school team faced Kareem Jamar’s Westchester (California) high school, faced each other in the 2009 Les Schwab Invitational Tourney. It was not pretty. Westchester who is ranked nationally in the top 20-30 by Maxpreps handed a whooping on Lake Oswego 78-27 (that is not a typo). Jamar scored 15 points for Westchester while Reader scored 4 for Lake Oswego. Now to Readers defense Westchester is a power and this game was also sandwiched between 24 point 12rebound performance against Lincoln high school the day before and a 28 point, 7 rebound performance the day against Rainier Beach the day after. Still though, 4 points has to really kill your average.

thanks for the report, mslacat. much appreciated. luv your website too.

i'm not too concerned about these numbers, for two reasons.

the low total against westchester may be on the guards, not reader. if they had trouble with the westchester press (and they must have, given the score), it's likely reader didn't see the ball much. his numbers against rainier beach, another excellent high school program, were much better.

but second, maybe more important, is that tinkle and his staff have shown they can develop talent--at least in the case of qvale. his improvement over two years has been dramatic. (rue the day we decided not to reshirt him.) if reader and hutchison have the innate talent, i'm sure it will come out once they get to missoula.

Not sure if this kid is still interested in Montana, but sure hope Tinkle is interested in him....last night, Westchester beat the DEFENDING California SoCal champs by over 40 pts! Fairfax had been rated 12 in the Southland....if this kid signs with Montana and passes the academics, between him and Cherry, things are going to be very, very good in the future of Griz bball.....

I think he's still interested. He verballed about 6 weeks ago. Has that changed?
