Jake Wiley--Trackster

You asked for info and then you dismiss it right away? If you know it's wrong, then just say it. No need to act rude.

Why don't you just say something like, "the situations have changed and they're no longer playing football."

Gets the same point across and you don't seem like as big of a prick. Just a helpful hint.

I wasn't rude. I gave them the courtesy of asking them when/where they had gotten the information. I knew what was said/written in the original articles, and suspected that their info was old and out-of-date, but wanted to make sure they didn't have more recent or better information than I did. I couldn't say the situation has changed, because I didn't know when/where their info was from. You are the prick--and as usual you are wrong. I will repeat my two posts below, and see if you can explain how they were rude or prickish.

1. "When/where did either of them say he would play "next fall"?"

2. "Old and out-of-date."

In the article from the wrap up of the Cal Poly game in the quick kicks, Spelts mention that Delanney confirms that Wiley has been working with the team with the intent of playing WR in 2014.

http://m.missoulian.com/sports/college/montana/football/another-stiff-test-on-tap-for-griz-defense/article_d260d296-3b52-11e3-9b14-0019bb2963f4.html?mobile_touch=true" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Delaney confirmed Tuesday that Jake Wiley has joined the football team. The 6-foot-6 California native quit the UM basketball team earlier this month and he is concentrating on the wide receiver position, targeting 2014.

Old and out-of-date.

So are you.

/I couldn't resist. It was just too easy.

Not too old or out-of-date at all, but correct as usual.

My gut feelin' said u were rude also but I'm not the type of person to call u out for it. If that's who u r then that's who u r. I'm certainly not gonna b the one that changes u.

Question 1 is also stated like u never heard that info b4 so I thought I was being helpful.

Then your gut feeling is wrong. I asked a question. You responded. I then followed up. There is nothing rude whatsoever about my question. I could have just said you were wrong. I didn't. I asked a direct question.

Understood. Trying to interpret someone's meaning in a typed phrase is like getting only the 1st half of the story and making assumptions from that. U will b ill informed and generally wrong.

I don't understand this thread. Jake Wiley and Mick Delaney have both stated Wiley is planning on playing football next fall. He's not on the football roster because he's not on the team yet. If he decides over summer he doen't want to play, so be it, but I have heard nothing otherwise.

When/where did either of them say he would play "next fall"?

I started this thread after reading the article of February 19 in the Montana Kaimin. The point of the thread was to note that the entire 1-page feature on Jake described how he was enjoying being part of the track team, and did not mention anywhere his interest in playing football, or that he was out for the team. In the article, Jake states that he left Missoula after Fall term undecided as to whether he would return to school. Jake states that his love of track and his love for his track teammates brought him back for Winter term. I found this interesting because this counters what most feel, including Coach Delaney, that he is a valid football prospect.

When/where did either of them say he would "not" play "next fall"?

I don't care if you or anyone believes what was said. Most people on the board know that my info is almost always correct. Maybe he will change his mind and surprise the coaches. You might check to see if he's participating in winter conditioning. I doubt it, but don't know. We'll soon know if he's out for spring ball. You might look at Maroon/Silver's post.

Not saying I do or don't believe you. But you haven't shown anything that "was said". You asked another poster what their proof was to back a claim about this young man, and they provided their evidence for all to evaluate. You then poo-pooed it claiming it was old info. I've simply asked you to do the same: let's see your evidence or proof to back your statement so it can be evaluated. No harm in everyone playing by the same rules.

There are no "rules" on posting information like this on the internet. I merely asked a question. Had there been no response, I would not have said anything, and wouldn't have demanded an answer (like you are doing). Posting information from an article is easy to do and doesn't breach any confidences, but that's very different posting information from a source. If you blab about your sources too much, you will no longer have sources. Since you probably don't have any sources, you probably wouldn't understand.

You break a cardinal rule, counselor, by making assumptions and statements when you know nothing about me. Bad, bad cross exam technique.

Sources are for reporters and gossips. Reporters get to blab and keep their "sources" confidential. You are not a reporter....

As for Wiley, selfishly I am hoping he is on the football team starting this spring. Either way, I wish him the best.

As for this thread, why does it not surprise me? Someone asks for where information was on his being part of the team. Someone obliges the request, yet that is not good enough, and now we have a thread of useless nonsense. Only on egriz, and only one poster could get what they ask for and still not be happy with a response to his one question.

None of this surprises me though.

Is it worth pointing out that Jake was not mentioned as receiving a football scholarship on signing day, nor has he been mentioned by Delaney since?

What's not to like about basketball? You at least get to play your games inside. It's not like it's played in a snowstorm like some of those late season Griz football games, yet alone in all those snow storms that early track season has to content with. Think of the bennies.

Another advantage is that the games are played at night, when it's too dark outside for the broadcasters to show the Trail of Tears at Bobcat games.

Also fewer snakes are out at night and during the winter months...

As much as I want to see Wiley at WR for the GRIZ, I am thinking there is a good reason it might not happen in the 2014 season. I believe a multi sport scholarship athlete has his scholarship counted against the football scholarship allotment. With the # of WR's we have on the roster and limited scholarships, how much sense would that make for the GRIZ to use a scholarship against football? This year, Wiley's scholarship was against the basketball team.

So if he gets a track scholarship in 2014, he has to stick with track only for it to not count against the football scholarship. I believe this is the main reason we see football scholarship players competing in other sports more often than not.

Maybe someone can add to this, but I think I am close to this being the case.
