Jackson State, Jackson State, Jackson State

Coach sanders has now went public that he wants his son on the Heisman list  Now I see one of the talking heads on espn saying he should be also.
Their SOS is 115, he is good but playing terrible teams.

I also don't like the narrative that he is building the team from nothing. Many great men and great coaches have tried to build something at an HBCU, however did not have his money or public image.

Interesting article from the new Griz beat writer Lucas Semb on the subject of the HBCU.

ESPN has a major hardon for them. I’d imagine Deion will move up the ladder soon and they’ll be gone again.
Actually it took a year longer than I expected.

Shows just how much bulls**t there was in his blather about "revitalizing" HBCU football, "energizing" FCS, and on and on. And he truly is an arrogant a**hole ... a quote from the article:
God made me like this, and I think God is pleased with what he created.

You know what I like about Griz fans? They don’t bad mouth the coach’s son...ever...never a word...positivity. Deion backs and sticks up for his kid, just like Bobby does. Any one of us would, if it was our kid. Recognize the talent of the player and move on. I get sick and tired of the cynical, holier-than-thou crap that gets posted about about Robby. That kid worked his ass off the whole time he was here. He had to deal with being the coach’s kid, and all the criticism from the spoiled fans on Egriz (not everyone on Egriz) He left it all out there every game. Just shut up!

Well said! Kid worked his ass off, was he perfect, absolutely not. The game he played against SEMO was one of the best individual defensive performances i have witnessed, you had to be in attendance to really understand. If posters want to blame him alone for the NDSU loss that’s fine, then credit him for the SEMO win. The kid was everywhere, a human recking machine. Not sure there is another out there with the motor he has. He definitely had some tough games however, the good ones far outweighed the rough ones.

The guy had 1 int in four years playing safety, 1. He was constantly beat in coverage out of position and I got so tired seeing the back of his jersey as he chased in vain the a rb or wr who beat him and the coverage. Tough way to end the season for this defense they were damn good could have used more diversity in the backfield though. Total downer man.

Yeah and your the poor Kid who got splinters on the bench watching the coaches son play in front of you… By the way, even if coaches son blew out his knee, you wouldn’t have gone in. Coach would have called a sophomores name as you sat on the bench in shock. Then you went home and got mom fired up and she tweeted all kinds of crap about nepotism, playing time and biased stats haha. I’ve seen this movie so many times

Well at least Robby won’t be playing shortstop and batting clean up next year, thank Christ.

Little bit more to become the Buffalo coach.

Quote from the article [my emphasis] ;)
That compensation would increase to $5.7 million in 2024, $5.9 million in 2025, $6.1 million in 2026, and $6.3 million in 2027. According to the Denver Post, it is the largest financial package ever given to a CU football coach, which athletic director Rick George confirmed Sunday. George admitted that CU does not have the money to pay Sanders yet.

Was hoping someone would read that part. However, Colorado is filthy rich right now and this will not be an accounting problem for the immediate future. It's still pretty damn funny that bunch of administrators still look down their nose at their geographical rivals. They bought into the same arrogant mindset that destroyed the Southwest and WAC conferences.

No way. I'm thinking 2nd or 3rd in the lineup. And I'm saying 3rd or 2nd base. He probably wouldn't take the right angles on grounders at SS.

Right now, the "best team in the FCS" has been taken into overtime by North Carolina Central, the #180 ranked team (Sagarin). Took a last-second jump ball TD to even get to that. (Lots of people rooting against J-State.)

NCC won in overtime.

Bummer for Sanders, but the announcers kept saying that the hire by Colorado has already paid off BIG TIME for them. At one point, one of them said that Colorado has already received more media attention than is had "for the last twenty years." Don't about that (number of years), but it has definitely gained them a lot of attention. On a more tangible level, they've apparently seen a big spurt in season ticket sales.

Was looking for something else, and came across this article from right after the FCS playoff selections came out. Jay Walker, publicist for HBCU football, was spouting off about how Florida A&M was “snubbed” by the selection committee. After all, they were 9-2, with their only losses to FBS North Carolina and “powerhouse” Jackson State. But to assess that record, you have to first drop it to 8-1 … removing the FBS loss and the D-II win. Only one of those wins was outside the conference … over pitiful South Carolina State (3-8).

The rest were all conference games. And that really means nothing because the SWAC is a bottom dweller among all FCS conferences (only the NEC, MEAC, and Pioneer are rated lower). Since 2018, SWAC teams have gone 20-47 in out-of-conference games against FCS opponents. Even then, they’re careful to pick (or can only get) cupcakes … the likes of SC State (above), Howard (5-6 in the equally weak MEAC), and McNeese (4-7 in the Southland). That’s probably why the SWAC has gone (1-6) in the Celebration Bowl against MEAC teams. (Grambling won it in 2016.)

The rest of their OOC games are mostly FBS money games (0-54). Then they fill out their schedules with D-II (they pick on Tuskegee a lot) and NAIA teams. Since 2018, the SWAC has scheduled 41 of those … and managed to loss three of them.

One can easily see (unless you’re Jay Walker) why the committee rated (7-4) teams from the Big Sky, Colonial, and Missouri Valley over a (9-2) team from the SWAC.
