Jackson McCullough

So he was a gray shirt last year, yet I thought there have been on-field pics of him with fans in the UNI they wore against CPSO. How did that happen?

I thought GS meant you were in school, but not able to interact as a member of the team.

One of our best DE's ever was a grey shirt. The grey shirt is used by every program in the country.
Which DE are you referring to? Off the top of my head the only grey shirts I can think of that have worked out well are Derek Crittendon and Jeff Larson
Dan Moore
Good call

More than 1 year starting SS Justin Whitted was originally a grey-shirt.

I like Simis at WR. I think he'll be like a Mike Ferriter (current receiver coach). Productive!

WOW so you think he will be a borderline star. Mike Ferriter is in the top 12 all-time in yards and touchdowns. That's quite a bold prediction. I don't share your level of confidence in this working out. I really like some of our young receivers. I will bet on Holden Ryan being the next Ferriter.

What I was thinking but didn't exactly get put from pen to paper was Simis kind of reminds me (a little) of Ferriter, from a broad appearance standpoint, their both from the northwest, and both were former quarterbacks now playing receiver...and both are very tough, competitive. Simis only has two years to play receiver, so no, he will not approach Ferriter in any all-time stats by any stretch of the imagination. It was just a generalization. I really like the young receivers as well. But I am pretty sure Holden Ryan is moving to defense. Don't hold me to it however.

bgbigdog -I had no idea, hoping this is the correct definition:

"Grey shirting is a recruiting term that is not as commonly used as the term redshirting. A grey shirt is an incoming college freshman who postpones his enrollment in classes until the second term of his freshman year. This means they don’t take classes until the winter term. The NCAA allows college athletes five years to complete four years of eligibility after initial enrollment.

When a grayshirt puts off his enrollment, he’s extending his eligibility past his senior year for another term. Grayshirting is most commonly used in football. By delaying enrollment until the winter after his senior year of high school, a football player can play the fall season one year after his graduation date.

However, in redshirting, an athlete is enrolled in classes and practicing with the team, but not competing in games. By postponing their participation in games, they extend their eligibility into a fifth year of school. They are allowed to practice and train, but don’t compete in games so they don’t lose a year of eligibility. Redshirting is also used when an athlete gets injured and won’t be back for the season."
