Jacks vs. Sam Houston

Who said the spring season was bullshit? That was a good game!
Awesome game! The weather obviously caused a lot of problems, but it was a Hell of a game once things settled down a bit. Best of all: Sam Houston won (meaning the MVFC team didn't).

What a game and what a performance by SHSU. Getting pass NDSU, JMU, and SDSU to win the title is incredible. I feel for the Jacks losing their QB on the first drive. The absolute last thing you ever want to happen in the title game. The Jacks run game is outstanding and will be tough to go against in the fall. Congrats to the Kats on winning the title in come from behind fashion in their final year in the Southland. Onto the WAC.

Watched the game, my initial reaction is neither team could have beaten Army or Navy let alone Northern Arizona. I saw a punt return called back and one 85 run. Other than that the longest plays were QB scrambles. I think the longest pass was six yards in the air but I might be exaggerating. The Bobcats would have rolled either team by 30 and they are not even the best team in south central Montana.

But I'm biased

My neighbor, a Furman grad, told me he watched the game and thought it was exciting but not good football. He also said that South Dakota State has the finest facilities in all FCS, according to the announcer. Glad I wasn't watching.

I heard that, actually wha the announcer said was the SDSU coach said they had the finest facilities. I laughed. Was a good game but neither team looked as physical as the Griz did. I am excited for this season

Assume you are talking about the Canadian Army and Navy teams...there is not a single FCS team that could beat West Point or the USNA FBS teams. Not one.

Exactly right! Heidi at QB for SDSU should be pulled. Not working at all. Gonna cost them the game.

That SMHS trickery doesn’t work. All that throwing and jiving around and only got 1-2 yards - it just doesn’t work.

Heidi has a promising knuckleball.

No sure why anyone would conclude that the #1 and #2 seeds in the FCS playoffs were not legit selections (other posts) ... playing each other. Both teams proved they were good by beating other good teams to get there. As for the relative lack of really big plays ...well, that's a failure to account for the substantial impact of the downpour they got hit with. Golf fans might know that the PGA tournament (located 6-7 miles to the east) also got shut down for a couple hours by the same lightning and rain. It didn't show as well at the stadium, but there were times when you literally couldn't see the front of the green from the back. Also, in case you missed it, the field at Frisco is not artificial. It's a hybrid Bermuda grass that looks great and holds up well, but the footing was never good, even late in the game.

The highlight reel of the game (all I saw) exhibited some of the worst tackling I've ever seen at this level.

I didn’t question any of that in my post. I’m aware that the conditions played a big part and those were the top 2 teams for a reason.

No, you didn't. We are in total agreement. I was referring to those "other" posts that seemed to question the quality of the game and the strength of the teams.

That game reminded me of a game in Chattanooga when UMASS beat Georgia Southern on a real shitty day and the turf in Finley Stadium was really poor. Brute force won that game. Of course, GSU won the next two years on the same field but better conditions. I enjoyed the game and I'm personally impressed with the linemen on both teams. Damn! To beat NDSU, JMU and SDSU in the playoffs is impressive.

Which is why we FCS fans prefer our real playoff system compared to the token "popularity contest" run by the FBS folks.

We need a good move up thread. Haven't had one of those in a while.... :P :P :P

Well, great. Now I'm thinking about the NC game in 2004 against JMU. Chicken wire. LV dropping one in the end zone (or called back, can't really remember). I've done a great job blocking it out through years of therapy and exercise, but now it's all back. I guess I'm going to doordash In-N-Out and go to bed. Try this whole thing again tomorrow.

I'd agree if I-AA were to cut back to 16 teams. 24 is damn near as bad as the basketball tournament where the committee puts damn near every team in the Power 5 conferences into the tournament.

It would be nice, I'll concede, to see the BCS expand to 6 teams. Give the top two teams a bye, let the others play in the bowls and semifinals on their preordained big bowls, but the Power 5 is going to do whatever in the hell anyone else, to include that goat rope called the NCAA, wants. If all the little guys don't like it, they'll go form their own athletic association.

I like the idea of 8 teams. All power 5 champs get in and it leaves 3 at large for independents and some awesome group of 5 champs.

Six or eight would be nice from a fans perspective. The Group of 5 teams will get the bottom seeds and the Alabamas will kick the holy shit out of them year after year though. No matter what they do people are going to piss, bitch, moan and howl about the playoff tournaments. Like me with that farce they call the NCAA basketball tournament.

What I don't like about an expanded football playoff is you'll see a shitty team like Oklahoma lose their first two games of the year get their shit together and win it all. It'll ruin the value of the regular season.

Beg to differ with you there solider. I think ndsu with trey lance would have beat both army, navy or airforce the last year lance played. Which was 2019. Lol
