Ivy to hold tournament

The last remaining conference without a tournament will begin one next season. Also, The MW is reversing its decision to go to 8 teams and will include all 11 teams again. Seems like tournaments are here to stay and that including all teams is too. Like it or not, better get used to the new big sky format.

Appears that is where it is heading everyone is headed, neutral floors, all teams included.

I think the Big Sky will have to take another look at location in 3 years if Reno doesn't work (the Semi's and Finals will be telling), but I think the neutral floor and everyone included is here to stay. It definitely diminishes some of the regular season for sure...

The Ivy tournament is only 4 teams right?
Yes, for now, but the trend is that conferences are including all teams. MW reversed because their decision to not include all teams was so unpopular.

Yale going to ncaa tourney for first time since 1962, but going with its captain and star. See today's NY Times article. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/10/sports/ncaabasketball/yale-jack-montague-expulsion-sexual-misconduct-accusation.html?_r=0

Vegas and SLC would be better sites, IMO.

Tournaments are such a big part of basketball anymore that they've become the most important part of the season. These kids grow up playing tournaments and the tournaments are the only things casual fans are interested in. The NCAA Tournament is arguably the second biggest sporting event in the country behind the NFL, while regular season college basketball hardly gets a mention. Very few people seem to care about college basketball anymore until March.

Vegas already has four tournaments in March and basically said they had no room for a fifth. They didn't bid on the Big Sky. SLC would be great for ISU, Weber and SUU fans, but the league's coaches really wanted a truly neutral venue. We'll see if they stick with that desire after three years in Reno plays out, but I'm sure the league is hoping to "grow" the tourney over the next few years. We'll see what happens. As the Missoulian article pointed out today, the only constant with the Big Sky tourney format over the years has been change.
