Holy f***[*]! You cannot be this dumb.

These are the "they", direct from your own (admittedly very poorly written) post:

Pointing out that some posters, who post incorrect stuff, and who can't back up what they say, is not being petty.

And then I simply stated that you were the only one posting unable to back up what "they" say.

Thx for putting in English. At least I now know what you were trying to say. Sorry, but I dont back up people who are wrong and people I don't agree with. Just like I won't back you up on saying the current griz performance is roughly the same as the glory days. Doubt that any other sane poster would either.

What you "did", PR, is what you always do. You "cooked the books", manipulated the information to make it fit your argument. EG, or anyone else should not be surprised by this. This is your training, your pattern and your world view. As an attorney, it's second nature to you, and others, on this board to create a reality that isn't based on an objective truth but based on your ability to control the message. Why would you not want to examine all of the facts (i.e. playoff performance regardless of home or away)?

If you truly want to do an "autopsy" on what this program has been thru over the past 5 years and the reason why there were firings then you have to look at what happened before then to give context. I would argue that an objective observer would come to the conclusion that there were problems in this program that extend before Pflugrad. Also, contextually, society and the times have been a changing. All the mitigating arguments that YOU'VE made over the years about athletes that got into fights, robbed and raped are a part of the problem. Shit had to change. Even a reformer like Pflugrad got caught up in that vortex. Not as much for what he said but when he said it (i.e. after all the other problems).

I'm not suggesting that these players didn't deserve due process of the law but lets be intellectually honest: there were a lot of players getting into trouble and making the front page of the paper. Right or wrong. there was a perception that UM football was a culture that was out of control and a small minority of these student athletes were out of control. A historian would suggest to understand any time in history one must look 5-25 years in the precedent years to understand that investigated time. I suggest you examine the legal problems and the general populations perceptions of this program during the Hauck years and also look at societal changes that took place during that time especially those changes of opinion regarding sexual assault. Guilty or not guilty, the UM football program had an image problem. Pflugrad was the last straw.

As a UM graduate, I will gladly exchange a win or two a season to not see a player on the crime log of the local paper.

For those of you who made it through this, I apologize about the length. I'm a bit dizzy and worn from the "Death Spiral".

Nope, Ursa, I did no such thing. I just couldn't understand what Everett's incredibly inarticulate and vague post was getting at, and then when I found out, I didn't agree with him. He is a very poor writer. And knows next to nothing about football.

I also like to chuckle at people like you who don't have a clue what business lawyers do, and think they are trained and act like litigators.

"fights, robbed and raped". Fights, yes a few did. None of them, except the frosh in front of the frosh dorm were anything of note. Those guys got overcharged. The charges were lowered for the 2 who didn't plea right away. The 3d played college football elsewhere and is a college coach. No one robbed, except for the several who "robbed" the marijuana dealer. Were charged and never played another down, and didn't end up with major criminal penalties. Raped. Donaldson pled. No one else was charged/convicted of rape, and no one else who hired a lawyer was tossed or of UM or not allowed to graduated. What a bogus "scandal" that all was.

The problem was not people like me who pointed out the facts and defended at times. It was people like you who couldn't or wouldn't see the facts. People like you who say "rightly OR wrongly". WTF. Wrongly. You have no brain or no balls.

Front page of paper, of a paper that was dishonest. I don't judge people or institutions by what gets on the front page of a paper, especially a horrible newspaper. I gather the facts, look at them and then make my own decisions.

Pflu did little or nothing wrong that deserved firing, and definitely did nothing wrong. He got fired by an unknowledgeable person, who has almost ruined UM. And small thinkers like yourself apparently supported the firing, and now you get to live with the aftermath. I'm happy for you.

I don't know if UM is in a death spiral or is now average, but I don't see UM winning 7 conference titles in a row (just Hauck, might have been more than that), going to the playoffs for 15 or more years in a row, and getting to the national championship game 50% of the time in a 10 or so year period, in the foreseeable future. In fact, never again will that happen.

And the biggest reason for that is people like Royce Engstrom and people like yourself who apparently supported what he did. While I like the Griz and wish they weren't in this hole, I am also glad that people like you are getting what you deserve.

Is Donaldson still a 'good kid' ?

Nice job, Ursa, in terms of where you and your ilk have taken the once loud and proud Griz football and athletic nation. Are you taking full responsibility for where the program is now?

As for Donaldson, I will be good to him when/if I next see him (altho he indicated a year ago that he would move out of state), and provide him with any help and assistance he wants from me. He has done his time. My daughter, who was his class, liked him. Almost everyone I know liked him. I liked him, to the extent I knew him. He made a mistake, he owned up to it, and he did his punishment. I don't cut and run on people I know and like, as you did with Pflu and O'Day.
You must have no balls, and no spine.

Well, I've always been a Griz fan, and always will be. You're a former cat fan.

How would you like said daughter spending the night on his sofa? Careful, paraphilias are pesky!

Why do you talk about balls so much? :?

Accurate. Nice guy, made a mistake, and did his time. I saw him in Bozeman last fall, he seemed to be doing well.

Notice how little words you spent on his VIOLENT, GUTLESS, and SICK crime. And how many you spent describing him as a nice guy that people liked?

Christ. Committing a crime like that is not a "mistake".....it's the act of a goddam monster.

All this attitude and complaining seems about what most would have predicted when the beginning of this whole scandal took off.

Sanctions, bad press, horrible mismanagement of the scenario, no damage control....and on top of it a giant DBAG author decides to write a book basically bashing your schools entire culture.

Now were at the end of it, and people are kinda freaking the F out because of everything that has transpired over the last 4 years.

Hows that saying go? It always seems darkest before the dawn? Yaaa whats happened at UofM is a freaking case study for that.

I think people are concerned because of the huge collapse of the football team in the last half of the season and particularly in the last 2 games, the overall weak season and no playoff birth, questions about the coach and some of his staff, the record of the basketball team and inability to hold leads, recent losses to the Cats in mens and women's hoops, loss to Cats in football at home, and the horrible record of the women's basketball (yes, significantly impacted by several key injuries, but also at the time that the longtime great coach retired). And some posters and people have been predicting the problems with the football team for a year or longer--whether they are right or wrong or lucky. Soccer was okay. Volleyball with 5-21 with at least one loss to Cats. Softball is 5-9. Academic center being built. Football schoolies coming back for next recruiting season. Where else is the good news?
.

Every day we get further away from those sanctions, scandal and Engstroms time at UM is great news.

Changing coaches after the 3rd year is not the answer.

I won't quote it in order to save space, but Ursa's rug sweeping is POTY stuff.

And Brews couldn't be more accurate. Much of the problem at UM wasn't the legal issues players had, but the failure to give them their proper due by the administration, fans and boosters. And anyone who describes what Donaldson did as a "mistake" has significant issues with reality and should seek immediate and long-term counseling.

I think some people forget how many one and done playoff seasons the Griz have had over the years.

As for basketball, it'd be difficult to find a better 10 year stretch in the 100 year history of the program.

How many? Virtually none where the first playoff game was at home.

Really?

1997: One playoff game, a loss at McNeese
1998: One playoff game, a loss at West Ill (by 43 incidentally)
1999: One playoff game, a loss at Youngstown
2002: Two playoff games, a home win, a road loss
2003: One playoff game, a home loss to West Ill
2005: One playoff game, a home loss to CP
2007: One playoff game, a home loss to Wofford
2010: No playoffs
2012: No playoffs
2013: One playoff game, a home loss to Coastal

That's during what most would consider the glory days of Griz football. Frankly, it looks pretty similar to what we've seen the last few years.

The other thing to consider, of course, is that most of those "down" periods were followed by deep playoff runs. Give this staff the same chance others got. Good things are on the horizon despite the "death spiral".

The loss YSU in '99 was a home game. Also lost to Delaware at home in '93. So since WGS was built we've lost six opening round games at home. '93, '99, '03, '05, '07, and '13.

No one has to give this staff a chance, they've already got one. Unless you count the 2011 team being stripped of its playoff appearance, we haven't missed the playoffs in back to back seasons since 1991-92. That's 25 years. This staff has a chance to not let that happen this year.

My daughter can take care of herself just fine. Knew and liked Beau in high school. My daughter can spend time with anyone she wants, including Beau. I have been fans of many teams, including the Cats, and have no problem with that. I didn't go to either school. Despite having not gone to UM, I'm a better Griz fan that you are, in my view. I support the team generally and don't bash the team. As for balls, spineless people like yourself don't seem to have them.

Sorry, just don't agree that a mistake on one night is makes someone monster, or any of the other things you called him. You are welcome to your opinion, and I am welcome to mine. See earlier post by 5700 on Donaldson.

What activity or mistake, legal or otherwise, by a UM player was ever "swept under the rug"?

What activity was ever not given its "proper due" by the administration?

Can you name some of these and explain how you believe they were swept under the rug or not given their proper due by the administration?

I believe Ursa previously talked about fighting and robbery/burglary in the distant past. Yes, there was some. I wonder if he recognizes that there has been fighting and burglary since Pflu/O'Day departed. In fact, there has been some after Stitt came. And there were some felony charges. No player charged with a felony ever set foot on the field, practice or otherwise, when Hauck was here, to my knowledge. Same for Pflu and Mick, except for JJ and Wilson, both of whom were acquitted in court.

To my recollection, the serious legal issues were Wilson and JJ--both acquitted, the house burglary (none of them ever set foot on the field after the charges), and Donaldson (pled guilty and never set foot on the field again. What else? The frosh punching a kid in front of the dorm was unfortunate and grossly overcharged, but it was nothing more than what has occurred at colleges for decades and still does on occasion (and those guys never played for UM after that); and the burglary charged initially at felonies was unfortunate and grossly overcharged (but quickly straightened out by the county attorney). The taser incident was overcharged, and the police spokesman grossly overplayed it initially, and it ended in disorderly conduct nolo (I think) pleas and tiny fines. Lots of bad press for all of these, but most of them, when looked at properly, were not big deals.

As for my support of certain players in legal incidents, my recollection is that I was right on every single one I provided significant comments on, except Donaldson. Many of you were wrong on virtually every single one you commented on.
