"It Sucks to be a Grizzly"

But, Doebrmn, very few us on these boards are old enough to have the rational, non-confrontational perspective you offer....

I haven't been to a Griz-Cat game in Bozeman in nearly 40 years (well, it's not hard to figure out how old '68 griz is), but I well remember the last time I was there ... in 1969. That's the year Frank Kalfoss' field goal attempt went wide, and the Griz won. We were sitting in the end zone where that field goal was attempted, totally surrounded by Bobcat fans -- and not one of them was in any way rude to us. Of course they were disappointed, but every single one of them in our area congratulated us when the game was over, and we all visited cheerfully as we filed out. I have fond memories of that last visit to what was then Reno H. Sales Stadium.

68 - Just a minor correction... that game would have been at Gatton Field, which was the football venue through 1971. Sales was built afterward and was used starting in 1973.

Right you probably are, Lydell. At my age, it's hard to keep track of how many stadiums we've been in. :|

Seriously, good people. Fostering arrogant and patronizing viewpoints regarding classless fans is biased, because EVERYONE has them. If we could manage to spend a little less time acting belligerent, we might earn the style points we're trying so hard to siphon.

But this topic perfectly transcends my point yesterday. The team that consistently has more to gain, will naturally be prone to exaggerating the outcome of a win like this, for both sides. But that's okay. I love Saturday because no matter the outcome, we're still indisputably the most successful team in the Big Sky. Nothing sucky about it. :thumb:

doebrmn: Right on, man. Dead on.

Its a healthy rivalry which both sides should be able to appreciate. Just ask Ohio State and Michigan fans. Admit it, if youre a true sports fan, you ADMIRE that sort of rivalry. For being a Montana thing, where much of the country believes we are actually in Canada (North Dakotas Gay neighbor - but i digress..) its a pretty damn good one.

Speaking of gay, who the hell came up with "Brawl of the Wild"? I much prefer THE GREAT DIVIDE..... Huh, who's with me,??????

IHateRobPhenicie: "Oh...and the Bruins are playing the Broncs, not Bengals."

Youre absolutely right, I screwed that up, the Bengals were last weeks playoff game. My apologies to the Broncs.

I find it most entertaining to read Griz fans posting how "horribly" they're treated on the road. After Saturday night's game in Pocatello no matter which way you turned, it only took about 20-to-30 seconds to find some Griz fans (always in packs, and more than likely flat-ass drunk or high) looking for some ISU fans to get into a fight with. It's a sad thing to see, especially since most of you that trekked to the Dome for the game are great fans and know how to act like it.

For the lion's share of you, we love having you in town and love coming to Missoula because you're a class group that knows how to win and be gracious about it...for your sake I hope you find a way to hide those other folks from the general public. Yes, I know we have idiots that go on the road and act the same way.

By the way, I almost fell out of my chair laughing at the fan who made the crack about all that Cat players are interested in beating is the "rap". Considering your season and the events of the past three days...that was an "extremely rich" comment! Thanks for a memorable moment.

:wavey:

Not to mention throwing full water bottles on the field, serveral times. There are a bunch of classless Griz fans, most of them were at the ISU game.

OK, first off, only 1 bottle of water was thrown on the field, and it was cuz of a pretty bad call. The guy who did it was HIGHLY chastised by Griz fans, and told to knock that sh!t off. He was a guy who apparently was experiencing his first game of the season...very drunk, and definitely NOT expressing how 99.9% of the Griz fans there that day. Secondly, I'm pretty sure that the "classless" jerkoff motion #72 made to the Griz crowd in the 4th qtr was way less offensive and immature than throwing a bottle on the field. One fan, drunk, does not represent Griz nation. One player, making an offensive remark like that, is much more severe...just ask Michael Vick or Joe Glenn...amazing what one little finger can do to you.

C'mon you guys, it's the greatest freakin' rivalry in the nation! Where else can you flip crap for AN ENTIRE YEAR to the loser? When the game is over, TRUE fans flip each other crap, talk about their team's performance, and then finish with "wait til next year"...followed by several cold frosties and 364 1/4 days left to think about next year. Just cuz some jerkoffs decide to take it further...who cares? Do they represent your team's fans? NO!

Oh, and doebrmn...I know you said no one loses to their biggest rival that year, then goes on to win the NC. Carroll did it in 2004 (I think), may have been 2003. They lost to Tech in Butte (which is WAY bigger than the game in Helena...yea, two games played against each other every year kinda sucks, but we all know which one we look forward to) then went on to win the NC. They actually lost to Western that year also, which is another big rivalry game. So yea, even though it is VERY rare, it has happened, and in MT. And I wouldn't be surprised if it happens at least once between the Griz and Cats. MSU put up one HELL of a fight to Appy State, and I think a win there might've sent them into the NC to meet either UMass or the Griz. A win over Appy State that year would've given the Cats sooo much momentum...God I wish we could play each other in the NC!

CountGriz, et al: Do you REALLY believe that Bobcat fans ONLY care about beating the grizzlies? Come on. Making statements like that only show you for what you are. I get better retorts from my sons Jr High friends.

Our seasonal goals arent any different than grizzly fans: Win the BSC. Beat the Intrastate Rival. Go to the playoffs. Be lucky enough to win a NC. Unfortunately for the Cats this year, we are pretty much down to one goal. Not a bad season, considering what we have had to re-tool this offseason.

I also hear "Cats are obsessed with the griz" and we have griz envy, blah blah blah. Cant it be that we just have a strong rivalry? How about this pic? Looks like were not the only ones "obsessed".

All I know is that you won't hear Griz fans...even the students...doing a classy chear like the Cats' favorite..."Eat $h!t Grizzlies! Go Cats Go!!!"

Good one, IHATEROBPHENICE. Thats good stuff. More Sophomoric, moronic, live-in-glass-house, stone-throwin crap. Anyone who has attended ANY Cat Griz game in the last 20 years knows it goes both ways.

How about these from your very own egriz:?

Hey, maybe i'm crazy, maybe its just because i grew up a BRUIN from Helena and am used to a hated, good old fashioned cross-town rivalry.... Speaking of that, good luck BRUINS against the Bengals for the AA Title.

Really good stuff.......good job.......keep up the investigative work Sherlock........maybe I am younger than Jr. High.....did you ever think of that? So the basics of what you are saying is the Cats never meet their preseason goals? Too bad.

Sorry Count, I think you got owned in this one :) Go back and make sure you stir your mac and cheese and put it on high for another minute and it should be done! Nice evidence Flathead! :)

Of course you would say that. You are a Cat fan and only think one way! I love Mac and Cheese but you can't put it on high or it will stick to the pan....here is the only evidence I need:

Cats 6-4
Griz 10-0

Sad that MSU tries to represent Montana.....just sad. It is hilarious when you have such a sad record and still try to justify how good your team is....all you need to do is look at the record. Very simple. But maybe you are one of those guys who says "We are a lot better than your record!". Sure, every team is.

I don't get how the Cats can even run their mouths right now....They got beat by Northern Colorado. Didn't the Griz beat those guys 52-7? Or something like that?

If anyone knows anything about a rivalry it's this: either team has an even chance of winning. It's what makes a rivalry, especially ours, so good. Who would want to watch a great Griz team (historically based on the win/loss record) go against a mediocre Cat team? I would! Why? Because despite their 6-4 record, and their loss to NC, and their massive list of injuries... they CAN still beat us! It's always a tough game to end the season because it pretty much decides where we sit in playoffs every year (wish we could say the same about the cats, since it's usually their LAST game of the year).

As a 70 year resident of Montana, lets get to the point. Green Hat out of stater thats has no idea of Grizz pride, and his mainly out of state players that don't show any heart and Grizz pride. Take your green hat and go back to Colorado and coach Jucco football, that are your qualifications.
