Not directly FCS … but hang with me for a sec. The Tennessee situation is most likely the most bizarre, and ugliest we’ve seen in a long time. Some words that we’ve read/heard with regard to the situation: “debacle,” ”fiasco,” “full scramble mode,” “nuclear option,” “digital mob rule,” and worse.
The connection to the UM comes from this: Tennessee alumni and fans are saying they need to “bring in a Tennessee guy,” “quit giving us guys who don’t know Tennessee,” “we want a coach who has a feel for the Tennessee traditionals,” “the coach needs to bleed Tennessee orange” …
Does any of that sound familiar? Not saying it’s wrong, or unrealistic … but there it is. Of course, so far some guys with Tennessee “roots,” have already said “Thanks, but no thanks.” They know just exactly what they’d be getting into … and want no part of it.
BTW, the “smart money” figures Schiano will definitely sue Tennessee … unless they reach a pretty big money settlement. Of course, UT might decide to throw their AD under the bus. As I understand it, Schiano and the AD both signed a “memorandum of agreement” for some big money (millions per year). But the story blew up -- “digital mob rule” -- before any UT higher-up had a chance to sign off. But even if those higher-ups repudiate their AD, Schiano probably has grounds to kick their butts anyway.
