It’s time to move up to the FBS the Mountain West preferably.

Not really, at least not the extent we are being hosed. For example, our average attendance is about 27K. UNCU’s is 3K. Thus, we are almost 10x bigger. Do you think there is an FBS school getting screwed out of proportion by a factor of ten?
Why are the MT schools featured in virtually every espn game while some schools never are?
"Not to the extent" is a different argument (perfectly valid). I'm just saying FBS conferences argue over revenue sharing all the time. Comparing attendance itself may not be applicable across all conferences, but I would be willing to bet that Ohio State, for example, brings in ten times the eyeballs to TV sets that Northwestern does.

You’re missing the point. Most of the bell cows in the FBS schools are not forced to share revenue equally with the little schools to any extent. Instead, they get a bigger portion, as it should be.
Why are we being forced to subsidize PSU, EWE, and UNCU?
For example, the ACC divides the remaining funds unevenly based on a weighted five-year viewership average.
This is ‘Merica. We believe in capitalism.
I realize Berkeley is full of commies, but come on man, aren’t you a Griz fan first and foremost?

I'm a former "move up" guy, stridently so. But I've changed my mind. We've found a nice niche where we are, as has NDSU.

Parallel insight: The new WNBA is great so long as women play against women. It'd be a disaster if any woman in the WNBA attempted to play in the NBA. None has, none ever will. They'd be way outa their depth.

We were way over-matched in both the old Pacific Coast Conference and the old Skyline Conference, and except for that all-time win at Washington, body bag games prove we are where we are. The big guys stole the money long ago.

I used attendance because we are familiar with those figures. If we used “eyeballs” the disparity is going to be even more extreme. Like I said, possibly the most extreme in all of CFB across one conference. The viewership for UM could be much higher than a factor of 10, more like 100x that of UNCU. Maybe 1000x? Millions of eyeballs tune in for a season of Griz football. How many tune in for UNCU? Tens? UM is on espn twice this year. Has UNCU ever been on espn?

Jesus. How many times do we have to plow this ground. Using 60 year old data or comparing 63 schollie teams to 85 schollie teams is a fool's errand.

Agreed. And NIL has completely changed the way we need to examine this issue.
Also, the WNBA analogy was even dumber.
Utter nonsense. Might as well be talking about a different sport

My memory isn't what it used to be, but isn't 5280 sorta responsible for a Butte company catching a lot of hell on social media over his posts on here then claimed ignorance? Am I thinking about someone else?

I caught your point perfectly well, I'm again just pointing out that even FBS conferences do this. The SEC distributes equally. So does the Big Ten. The ACC changed it only recently because they were terrified of losing FSU/ Clemson/ UNC.

Would you prefer UM got an unequal share? Like Boise in the MW? I'm not actually arguing either way on it. Maybe the Big Sky is the most lopsided, neither of us has the numbers to show that one way or another. I was more curious if there is a "cutoff" of disparity/ a particular degree of parity in which you're okay with teams splitting equally even if they contribute unequally, hence me bringing up that even the FBS conferences (mostly) do equal sharing.

Agreed. It's delusionary to believe that we'd NEVER be able to compete or find the money.
I have never said that. I only say it's delusionary to think we could get the money. And we definitely would not be as competitive as we are now. If we started losing too many games each year, the attendance and interest would drop, in my view. I would definitely become less interested. And then I'd have even more time to post on egriz.

For now. Guarantee the next agreement will be different. Everyone knows that. College football is changing. Going to be “tiers.” The days of the commie dinosaur conferences are ending. And soon.

Further, the (temporary) equal sharing only applies to some tv deals for some conferences. It does not apply essentially across the board like in the BSC for basically all revenue. For instance, the SEC is one of a number of leagues that awards more College Football Playoff money to the schools bringing it in, so does ACC and B1G.

Define "too many". When the preseason debate every year is whether we go 11-0 or 10-1, I'd say we've passed this level of competition by.

I, for one (anecdotal evidence, I know), would make several trips to Missoula a year to watch a higher level of competition. I ain't flying in to watch Central Washington or UNC or PSU or Bryant or Indiana State, etc., etc. Wyoming? Colorado State? Utah State? Oregon State? Nevada? You bet. I'm there in a heartbeat.

Define “delusionalry”.

I get your second paragraph.

I know you aren’t a good fan who wants to see and help the team win every week. That’s a joke.

I want to see the team play every game. Every game is important for development of the team and playoff seeding. I love the home game atmosphere at the stadium and around town.

But for me, the most important thing is what’s best for the program. Right now, being where we are is the right place.

I watch every game from afar. It's a $2500 evolution for me to get to one game. So yeah, I'm not making that trek for Central Washington. If that makes me a "not good fan" then so be it.

Yet you admit fandom and viewership would decline if the success rate went down...sounds like there's a LOT of "not good fans" out there already...

Attendance isn’t going up because the team is losing. Yes, winning and the playoffs make for higher attendance. What’s $2500 to a big executive like you.

Well, i can either watch from afar and donate it, or spend it watching us play punching bags every week. I choose the former.
