It’s time to move up to the FBS the Mountain West preferably.

I'm not going to argue over the same silly points over and over again. For those of you that can't see how dramatically this changes the success we've achieved, too bad. It's not happening anytime soon anyway so dream the dream that Montana walks off the field with the CFP championship and then wake up to the reality that the weeds will grow all over WA-Griz because no one will care anymore.
GT, nobody ever believes that Montana could ever win the CFP championship. What many of us are saying is that there will be a shift of the Power conferences separating away from the G5, and that the G5 (our actual peers) will very more than likely have their own playoff system. Essentially, the G5 is going to become the new FCS. That is what people are advocating us to move up to.

What we should consider is taking the best of the Big Sky and aligning with the best of the MVFC and then see if there can't be a move like the MAC where we all move up together in a conference where the teams have something in common.

This would be the next best option of there was 0 invite from any G6 Conference available, and I'd still try to get a few existing D1 teams to also join:

Montana.......MSU
Idaho.............NDSU
SDSU.............UNI(or)*Wyoming
*NMSU..........Tarleton State
Abeline..........NAU

Other Options: Sac State, UND, USD

* = existing D1 additions

Good mix of Time Zones, brands and States (only picked ones not saturated with D1 schools besides Texas) and would be a fun Conference IMO. NMSU would probably jump at the chance to join a more Western based Conference, Wyoming would be a much harder sell.

Regardless we NEED to be pushing to join the MWC, supposedly Montana, MSU and the Dakota States approached the MWC together already but we need to keep pushing. As mentioned playing against Wazzu, OSU, Utah State etc. > Portland State, UNC, UT-Tech

And I said the day that happens, I would support moving up. I think the better option for that scenario would be the best of the BSC joining the best of the MVFC still. Where Wyoming puts all of there funding into one athletic program, we can't even compete with them, whereas, we are on the same level with the teams that we could align with and move up as one group like the MAC.
If you have heard Haslem on this, it would take a lot of money, just in the additional football needs.
As for swimming, does the pool still operate? Last year when I walked by there a sign was on the door that read "ART ANNEX." It takes a lot of money to fill and maintain a pool too. Who wants to go and watch a swim meet? I volunteered to work the combined MW/WAC championships here a few years back and that has to be the most uninteresting athletic competition I have ever witnessed. I was right on the starting blocks, so I don't believe there could have been a better area to view the action.

EXACTLY!! If Montana was FBS we are still losing kids like Matt Ludwig to Michigan. No, I do not think they would rather play here over Boise State.

I don't care how many Montana kids are on the team either, and especially less so if we moved up. We would need to find a new pipeline because the one we have right now would not compete in the top of the MW. Where are we getting recruits from? It's also not very warm here in December.

Disagree on both fronts. I think many WOULD rather play here than Boise.

I also think (with a few exceptions) our front line talent is fine...like any other FCS program, the issue is the depth.

And it's warmer in Missoula than it is in Michigan in December...fyi.

Hell, NAU SHRUNK their stadium by over 4,000 seats because it looked half-empty all the time.

And there's no WAY UNC had 5,000 at any game in the recent past. There weren't even 5,000 at the UM game I attended there.

And god help Portland State. They need to give up the ghost.

That is literally the issue with every power 4 team as well. Reason why we will never see another Alabama again. You can’t just stack 5 stars on the depth and expect them to stay. Talent is not the same. What are you talking about?

I'm talking about the fact that many times our backups don't get full scholarships like P5 and G5 schools. Many backups and depth guys are walk ons. That impacts the depth and skill level, and that's where we suffer.

So what you're saying is that it's only about winning. Not competing at a higher level. You'd rather beat up Little Sisters of the Blind than compete against our peers...(or you believe the fanbase feels that way)...

However, if you look at the remaining schedule, we only have games "against our peers" remaining. This is according to the schedule, not my opinion or that of the fan base. The objective of having a schedule is winning every game, which is based on fact for over 150 years of the sport.

We don’t have to schedule the little sisters of the poor for non conference games. We can play tougher competition but choose not to schedule those games anymore for whatever reason.

Lol...we don't have to, but we do, because the robotic fanbase will pack the stadium to watch paint dry. We COULD play tougher competition, but we choose not to move up.

These are not our peers. Not even close. Directional schools that are an afterthought in their own states and with their own alumni.

This sums it up for me. We currently compete in the second best division in CFB. It will soon be the third best division in CFB.

CFB needs to fix its nomenclature to fit reality.

Current:
-FBS=DI
-FCS=DII

Soon:
-P4=DI
-G(whatever)=DII
-FCS=DIII
